Permanent live 12v outlets

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted something like a PCT Volton Combi to the feeds to the socets in the boot and in the rear passenger space to prevent battery drain when the engine isn't running?

Is so how did you access the back of both sockets?

Doesn't the car do this itself when the battery voltage drops below a certain threshold?

That's not how I read the manual-

" Connecting appliances when the engine is not running will drain the battery
of the vehicle!"

" The 12-Volt sockets also work if the ignition is switched off. "

But if someone can say definitively one way or the other,

I've read that on another forum, though the poster admitted to being uncerttain and there was never confirmation either way.

I guess it's a difficult one to determine for sure.

You'd have to plug something in for an extended period of time, and then try starting the engine.

I'm told they switch off after an hour....

They don't, plugged in avoltmeter to the boot socket and the following morning it was displaying 12.1v quite happily

Did you lock the car overnight?

Chances are when you unlocked the car in the morning they turned back on again.

Yes, I can see through the windows without unlocking :)

Someone should get the circuit diagrams from erWin to confirm, but it sounds like that outlet is hardwired to battery positive via a fuse or two.

Does it have red and brown wires going to it? (If possible to see)

12.1 is a little low.

OK, but that's for a battery under load.

With the car still locked after an overnight sit, 12.1 is low battery voltage to be seeing 'off load', I'd expect 12.5 or more for a battery with a good state of charge. Do you have something plugged into other outlets?

My husband heard elsewhere on the net that there were a botch of substandard batteries produced last summer and apparently if one has starting problems a call to Skoda Assist will get someone out to check the battery and replace if necessary.
