Oil change help needed

Featured Replies

Hi I'm servicing my car tonight, changing the cam belt, and changing oil. I have a 1.8t 4x4 with the ARX engine. It is on Variable servicing.

i have been to Halfords, and thier book states I should use a 5w-40

I have also looked at this table http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/extras/faq/docs/oil_recommendation.pdf

and It seems to say I need 0W-30

Please help someone must know the correct oil.

Thanks

Sorry for putting this up again, just I have not had any replies yet!!

I also have it re-mapped too if that's important

Pleas help!! Also where can you get Haldex oil other than at Skoda??

Halfords are wrong. You need a spec VW 503 00 oil for variable service intervals. This is an 0W-30 fully synthetic oil. The FAQ on this subject is currently missing, but here is an oldish list of suitable LongLife oils:

Aral SuperTronic LongLife II SAE 0W-30

BP Visco 7000 LongLife II SAE 0W-30

Castrol Longlife 2 Top Up SAE OW-30

Castrol SLX LongLife II SAE 0W-30

Elf Evolution CRV SAE OW-30

Esso Universal LD SAE 0W-30

Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL Longlife Plus SAE 0W-30

Q8 Formula Excel EDX SAE OW-30

Mobil SHC Formula LD SAE 0W-30

Motul Specific 50601 50600 50300 SAE OW-30

Shell Helix Ultra X SAE 0W-30

Texaco Havoline Synthetic 50601 SAE OW-30

I have been using the version of Castrol SLX LongLife II which includes that spec plus 506 00 and 506 01. But be aware that Castrol also make a version of that meeting spec VW 503 01 - this is not suitable for your car.

You should be able to get Haldex oil at any VAG dealer.

You will need to use VAG-COM sftware (or a dealer) to reset your car for variable servicing.

The 503.01 spec is the higher performance specification VW oil, this is as used in the Audi TT's and LCR's, it is suitable for use in our engines and is a longlife oil, infor as confirmed by Opeioils as I bought the 503.01 on their recommendation, particularly if your car is remapped
