Vrs engine mounts

Featured Replies

How big a job is this?

I've only ever done a dogbone mount before on a Mk4 golf

I seem to have lots of clicking and clunking when pulling away and braking so something is moving backwards and forwards

It one of three things

1: suspension top mounts

2: subframe bushes

3: engine mounts

I assume its just a case of getting underneath and getting a pry bar on things.

Im suspect engine mounts though, how big a job are they to do?

Engine mounts are easy enough to do as they're pretty acessable from the top. I believe the bolts require replacing once disturbed though.

Before you go playing with mounts though, have a check of the radiator. The rubber mounts for that can deteriate over time and allow the rad to flap about causing a noise on pulling away and braking.

Good shout I'll check that.

From sitting in the car with handbrake on and trying to pull away there doesnt seem to be much engine movement but when you go into reverse and then try the same is when you get the crack noise but again not much movement of the engine.

Sounding like a dogbone mount?
