Really struggling, please help

Featured Replies

Hi, I am sure there are loads of notes on this, but I am struggling to find an idiot's guide to changing my std stereo in my 14 plate Yeti to something better. I don't specifically need SatNav but DAB would be nice.

Can anyone help with advice on what systems and how to change it over

Thanks in advance

I guess the simplest option would be a switch to an OEM system, featuring DAB. You'd need to add a DAB aerial, but it'd integrate fully with the car.

My 2014 Yeti has the Amundsen system. The screen is almost laughably tiny compared to more modern units, but the DAB works well, as does streaming music via Bluetooth, playing MP3 from the SD card etc.

Alternatively you could stick with what you have currently and then stream digital radio, via Bluetooth, from an app such as TuneIn radio. I did this (via a cassette / 3.5 mm jack adapter) in my old MkI Octavia.

I consider DAB to be a must, mainly for Radio 5 live (and SportsExtra) alongside Radio 4 extra:thumbup: I travelled the length and breadth of the UK and have rarely found prolonged dead-spots.

This is what's fitted to my car......

I ve had both the Amundsen and the Colombus and the the DAB was very good on both units

Thank you both.

Pink panther, what is the unit you installed called and exactly how do you remove the existing one ?

The unit in my earlier post was the original, fitted to my current car (2014 Yeti). I'd previously had an early (2009) Yeti, which came with the Bolero as standard.

I understand the unit in my car is an Amundsen (? RNS 315). It has DAB, Bluetoothand, sat-nav and interfaces well with the maxi-dot (display between the dash clocks). The screen is pretty small by modern standards, but I've found it to work well over the years.

I've never removed the stereo from a Yeti, but understand you clip off the black plastic surround and this reveals the screws, removal of which enables the unit to be removed.

No idea how genuine these sellers are (or where they source the units), but see them regularly advertised on eBay: eBay add - RNS315

They do also occasionally come up for sale on here: Parts for sale

Just for info, I have a spare Amundsen/RNS-315 unit that has DAB and Bluetooth. If you're looking elsewhere, be aware that Bluetooth and DAB functionality isn't standard on all these units. And I certainly wouldn't be asking £370 or whatever that eBay seller is hoping for :)

I'll be listing it up for sale shortly, when I dig all the bits out of the garage as I have no use for it now. I was going to fit it to the Mk2 Fabia I had before my current Yeti.

@Cheekyfork - I'll drop you a message when I do.

I could be interested in the RNS315 if Cheekyfork doesn't want it, does it come with the DAB ariel as well, and the Sat-Nav receiver ?

DAB aerial I have with it is the internal window type, plus a 'puck' type GPS receiver that can be located underneath the dash.

More detail when I get chance to post the info up.
