cost of EGR delete light

Featured Replies

Hi, Just as an average how much should it cost the have the EGR light coded out, I've been quoted around £150 by a couple of tuners up here, Seems a bit expensive....

Why do you want/need the EGR light coded out?

EGR valve was causing tick over problems, The valve is basically knackered, it's closed all the time now and the engine seems to run better with it closed, cleaned out the inlet manifold which was in a bad state so decided to leave it closed but the light keeps coming on which i keep clearing but comes back on, going to fit a delete pipe in time but just want the light coding out..

Why not fit a replacement EGR valve and keep your emissions within spec? That might cost less than having the ECU software hacked...

That isn't quite what is being asked....

@OP - it's more expensive as the coding for EGR is within the ECU software, not within the scope of VCDS.

So what you're really asking for is an ECU remap. It's why the vast majority of people combine the mapping out of the EGR valve, with a remap for performance gain.

The difference between a hack and a remap is just the competence of the person making the change.

Some tuners delete some of the readiness bits by suppressing some fault code detection, is that a competent remap or a hack?

Since the OP issuing the problem is a faulty EGR valve it seems to make more sense to me to replace the EGR valve rather than change the ECU software - unless he also wants a performance enhancing remap.

Remember, come MOT time the tester is now required to look for the EGR valve and make sure it's fitted and not tampered with. If you don't have an EGR valve, you won't get an MOT. ;)
