DTC Code 18048

Featured Replies

P1640: "Internal Contr. Module (EEEPROM) Error".

The Engine Management Light came on on my Mum's 2001 Fabia 1.4MPi last week, so I scanned it with VAG Com. It threw up the above code.

I searched on SCN and the only thing I got from there was that that code tends to come up on a remapped car. Now, the thing is my Mum is pushing into her 70's, and I am pretty sure she is not into remapping Fabia's.

Anyone got any ideas what this code could be pointing to?

All the techies seem to be gone from this site.... Someone on SCN thought it could be due to moisture getting into the ECU???

Seems to be driving fine but the code makes me worried.

Autodata CD2 gives:

18048 (P1640) -

Fault location: Engine control module (ECM) - defective

Probable cause: ECM

I haven't managed to find any useful information for this error code via Google. If it were my car I would try and look for signs of water ingress into the ECU, and also ask a dealer if the ECU can be reflashed. MPI ECUs vary between circa £339 and £462 depending on the particular engine.

Have you tried clearing it? Does it come back?

I've had that one a few times on the MPi, clear it. If it comes back its a new engine ECU

No reflash on the MPi ECU

Yup, I have cleared it. I will be visiting my Mum at the weekend, so I will scan it again to see if it has come back.

hi

have you managed to find the problem?

my gf's car is having the same behavior (i'm getting the same error code from VAG and the engine check keeps blinking)

Start by posting an Auto-Scan from the car in question so we can determine control module part number and software version.
