Superb 3.6 white smoke

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2014 3.6 petrol. I noticed that it was producing white smoke during start up. I assumed this was condensation but noticed it lasted a few minutes and happened whatever the outside temperature. The other day i noticed the smoke coming out briefly when accelerating suddenly - smoke came out when in the higher end of the rev ranged. Idle seems a bit lumpy also. I'd really appreciate any advice.

What is your coolant level? As that is the only other potential source.

Danny 57 is right about checking if the coolant is low. You could have a blown gasket or worse (cylinder head or engine block crack), I saw your other post about the car also giving violent jolts here: Violent Jolt

If the car is a 2014 and it only had 35K miles on it when you got it 5 months ago (I remembered you posting about the 3.6 Estate and looked that up)  - it should have a warranty. You said it was from a dealer - if that was a Skoda dealer then the warranty should be 1 year.

Have you been to the dealer? If so, what did they say? If they fobbed you off then its time for war. If you havent brought the car in to them - please do it ASAP.

if it is a head gasket problem look for a thick white cream inside the oil filler cap, as all have said white smoke or steam basically is  due coolant water being introduced into the combustion chamber or chambers. if there are no milky deposits then a trip to the dealers or trusted indy will be required, get it to the dealer asap as @TheRobinK has suggested.

I'd take it back to any dealer QUICKLY - whatever the warranty you have major rights in the first six months - In this time period by law any fault is presumed to have existed when you bought the car unless it can be proved otherwise.

As in other thread - realised only purchased in May but non Skoda dealer so not sure how helpful they will be.

Is it an estate or Twindoor?

Petrol engines generate more condensation out of the exhaust than diesels, and the aerodynamics of the estate mean that it's easier to see in your rear view mirror as it licks-up past the rear window.

A common concern on the MkIII Octavia petrol estate, long journey, short journey, hot or cold, it still does it...

Servicing of the car might be in order.

The Air filter checked if not already done, maybe a new air filter, maybe new spark plugs, but plugged into a diagnostic machine would be in order,

speaking to a Mechanic or Technician that knows about the model / engine you have as well.

This thread is very reassuring. The car has been serviced by Skoda < 5000 miles ago in March.

I will check the coolant level again - if this is stable then according to the thread above it is reassuring!

The car was not serviced by Skoda was it, but at a Official Dealership?

?

What was done then, was the Air Filter even looked at or changed. When are they going to look at the Spark Plugs, 40,000 or 60,000 miles, or 4 years, or ever?

They might have done a Wash & Vacuum, Change the Oil & Filter, lubed hinges, looked and seen and reported, or maybe not, what does the Service Record show?
