Central locking problem

Featured Replies

It is not the battery in the fob!  A Snap VCD does not indicate a problem. The wires behind the door lining and the wires in the rubber tubing that connect the door to the car are fine.

The fob does not work.

I can open the drivers door with the key, the light on the fob and the exterior lights flash as normal, together with the light on the inside of the door.

The only way I can open the other doors is to start the engine, turn it off , lock the door with the key, then open it. The external lights still flash as normal. Then the boot and passenger doors will open.

The radio no longer turns off automatically, nor do the lights if I have them on auto. Everything else appears to be working correctly.

my local mechanic has looked at it and can not find the problem.

On the Octavia section somebody suggested starting the ignition then locking and unlocking with the fob. Tried that did not work.

Any suggestions much appreciated. Would a Skoda VCD pick up the problem?

Do the doors lock/unlock from the button between the seats?
I suspect VCDS would show some fault codes.

Yes the lock/unlock button works correctly on all doors and boot. I have been reading more post all morning and have been reading about maxidot. They write about various setting it this anything I should check? I have not a clue where to look. If it is something that applies to the Yeti, if it is  please can you point me in the right direction ? So do you think a Skoda garage VCDS would indicate a fault ,even if my local garage with a Snap VCDS shows nothing.Does Liger1956 have a VCDS that would be the same as the Skoda garage?

Left some info off

Do the other doors unlock with a 2nd or 3rd press of unlock on the fob?

  • Author

The fob button does nothing. The light on it flashes but that is it. Slight improvement, I have gone to setting , convenience then central locking, then door unlocking, then all doors, then automatic and tick both lock and unlock. At the moment I can lock and immediately unlock with the key and they are all working. The hazard lights work when locking and unlocking. The interior door light flashes about 6 times on locking but not at all when unlocking. I do not know if it should flash.  I have not had to start the engine to get it to work,  but I have started the ignition to do the resetting. I will have to wait and see if I can open and shut all doors and boot without putting on the ignition first. If I can then I will only have to sort the fob out.

Do you only have one fob?

reply to Sad555 no we have two fobs neither work.

If locked the door light should flash until it is unlocked.

Everything in previous post has changed. Back to first post.Only difference is I have realised I don't have to start the engine, I just have to switch on the ignition.

Also light in door is now flashing when door is locked! Was no before.

I have a genuine copy of VCDS which is able to do a very deep scan for any fault codes in all modules fitted to the car. It should report any faults that the dealer would be able to see (and maybe more).

Start with a VCDS scan and checking all the fuses...

Post you scan when you've done it, assuming there are no faults you could try repairing both fobs using VCDS too.

Out of interest which model / year car are we talking about?

I have a 5 year old Yeti which has been great until the last few days. Hoping to get help from here.

Quoted from another thread, so probably a 2013 Yeti if that helps.

Soda Yeti 2013 L+K. 2.0 TDI CR 170 PS DPF diesel. I have gone back to factory setting, in settings/convenience apart from changing one door to all doors.

Liger 1956 I had the mechanic use his Snap VCDS and no fault came up. He suggested having it done at a Skoda garage as even though he believes his snap one is good, he believes Skoda hold back some of the information. That is if I have understood him correctly.

How do I find out more about having it checked with yours?

sorry I had not realised I have 2 threads going! I thought the first one was just to introduce yourself.

Please can somebody delete the other thread and the duplicate posts on this thread. I would do it myself if I knew how. I tried and another repeat arrived so don't want to try again. I looked to see if I could contact somebody by email to do this but have been unable to find address. Please delete this post also if you can.

Does anybody know which fuse would have to be blown to stop the keyfobs working as I am not familiar with the Yeti model?

Also where is the OBDII port and the fuseboxes on a Yeti?

Fuse box can be seen on the A pillar when drivers door is open, slot at bottom to get a key or screwdriver in to pry the cover off.
OBD port is in front of your right knee.
This is the correct orientation of the fuses, they are upside-down in the manual.

Thanks for the info Urrell. I will wait and see what VCDS reports tomorrow.

The OP has just been to see me and I have scanned her car and the scan is attached. Some of the fault codes e.g. speaker fault may have been caused by a mechanic removing the door cards when checking the wires from the car to the doors. I have cleared all of the fault codes successfully. I was also aimimg to check whether the remote fobs were being recognised by the car but I could not find that option in the output tests of either the Central Convenience or Imobiliser modules but I did find that both keys were registered in the imobiliser module. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place.

Things that I did find out were:

1) The problem came on one day after the OP had walked her dogs. She came back to the car and the lights were on but the keyfobs did not work. She did not say whether she noticed that they were on when she laft the car.

2) All doors lock and unlock from the centre consule button so I pesume that the door wiring, fuses and modules are working.

3) The windows do not open when holding the unlock button on the keyfob.

4) When the key is removed from the ignition lock the radio does not go off like it did and the auto lights do not go off if they have been on.

Could it be that the inginition switch does not realise that the key has been removed and is therefore disabling the remote keyfobs. I ask this as the radio in my Octavia only goes off when the key is removed from the lock. It stays on when the engine is turned off.

All thoughts and ideas are welcome.

SCOYETI VCDS Scan 2018-09-03.txt

Removed VIN from VCDS scan

The fault code showing that reads   "01331 - Door Control Module; Driver Side (J386)"

On the Ross Tech Wiki there are possible solutions.... http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01331

Might be worth getting the cars battery tested to begin with due to the amount of faults showing on all the doors and central electrics etc..... a battery with poor voltage can cause havoc....

Edited by PMK161

Could this be the notorious door loom issue, perhaps two broken wires shorting together?

I expect most of those codes are from the mechanic taking a look.

It is possible the ignition switch is faulty but I'd normally expect a code for that. The fobs should work regardless of whether a key is in or not.

I would have been tempted to try clearing and relearning the remotes as mentioned here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Comfort_System

Conclusion:

Went to a Skoda garage today. They did another VCDS scan but it still was not obvious what the problem was.No coded fault come up directly. I get the impression that they were following a trail of faults.

Langers2k was correct.

Problem with the ignition lock cylinder start switch. Could be the reader coil or ignition starter switch. £46.20 for the starter switch, £66 for the read coil. I just hope they are correct since the fobs don't work and you think it should work regardless. Maybe there are two separate problems.

Thanks for all the help I have been given, particularly Liger1956 for taking the time to scan my car.
