Haldex Gen 4 filter change?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I am driving Skoda Superb 2 (2014 reg) elegance 4x4. My question concerns Haldex System. First of all can you confirm my Skoda uses haldex Gen 4? Secondly, I changed haldex oil for the first time at 35k (miles) and the mechanic said no need to change the filter.. now after reading on web and people say I should change the filter no matter what as it will clogged up and the pump will go prematurely, how true is that? Why car manufacturers state not to change the filter on haldex 4, saying it's lifetime. The car has now done 73 k (miles) and I am planning to replace haldex oil with filter, there are haldex replacement kits online to buy, those include VW oil and a filter. Do I need to see a specialist to carry it out or is it simple job using simple tools? Thanks for any info

There is Haldex and rear transaxle/diff - two different things using two different lubricants and I think having two different service intervals.

Not sure about filter in the diff - not my time yet ;) - but in Haldex there is only fine metal mesh that just needs cleaning - mine was clogged enough after 20k miles to cause Haldex to stop working.

About tools - just more or less "special" pump / syringe to put oil in - filling hole is horizontal so you need to be quick with the plug ;)

I get the impression that few Skoda dealers actually know the Haldex system properly beyond what is in their technical bulletins and service guides.  The filter is clearly replaceable, and should be done like any filter at the appropriate time/mileage but they only change the oil...?  My car is a 2014 and is Gen 4, I have just turned 40K miles and had the oil changed last year, I am considering doing it again sooner as the filter wasn't changed.

The strainer on the end of the pump should also be cleared at the same time.  I am keeping a close eye on my car at the moment as I have had a couple of fault codes appear and then get cleared but not come back as yet.  I have a local VAG specialist that I will probably use as my last visit to the dealer I was coughing up £80 odd quid before they even got going for their diagnostics check.  I could buy the full service kit for that and hand it over to the VAG specialist to fit.  I was under the impression that you had to have VCDS to start and stop the pump to allow the filter cartridge to pop out for changing and also to bleed air.  Worth checking out further.  That's about all I can add from my knowledge, if I had more time/equipment I would do the change myself but its not practical for me at the moment.  Cheers
