Perth & Kinross Council looking to outlaw cars ticking over when stationary.

Featured Replies

That is on Crieff High Street that is always up at the highest polluted streets in Scotland.

So the news reports are saying Fixed Fines for those with cars ticking over.

If they bring in the Bylaw there they might as well do it for the whole of Perth & Kinross and the Scottish Government for the whole of Scotland.

That will be Buses, Vans, Lorries as well as cars, which will be interesting for Transport and Deliveries.

Perth & Kinross should maybe first give Wardens and Civilian Officers the Authority to patrol Crieff High Street and to tell motorists parked to switch off their engines,

if they have the staff and the budget to do that without the income from actually giving fixed penalties.

(Simply Clever is Recruit more Special Constables / Senior Citizen / Un-employed benefit recipients to walk up and down the High Street and every street, that just needs to be Dog Walkers or the likes, or shoppers / residents,

they can have the power to tell litter louts and dog sh!t non pickers uppers what to do.)

It's enabled under Scots law already

The problem with Crieff (as a former resident) is the parking on the high street and the high street being a major trunk road East / West (A85).

Lots of bad parking especially around the kebab shops just past the square /  King Street cause the traffic and larger HGVs to snarl up. So you get lots of dirty vehicles sitting stuck. Geography rules out a bypass unless money was no object. Comrie is probably pretty bad as well.

I do like keeping the car warm while getting my chips.

Should have doen it ages ago...fecking builders....even in warm weather sitting in van for every tea/lunch/food break 11ish...12ish...1-2pm....3pm etc......engine running...I had several outside my place the past year as neighbour was having placed rebuilt.....

My driving for the past 10yrs has polluted less than this lot in the past year....

Wouldn't want the taxi drivers to have to walk with their ice creams would we?

If you have a streetview stroll up and down that street you'll see quite a few people on double yellows and that is a very quiet time by the looks of it, that street is regularly gridlocked. There is no enforcement of parking so I don't know what they plan to do to enforce idling.

Contractors!    I am going to put forward that they have more Jakies,  registered methadone users,  those on job seekers wonder up and down the streets tapping on car windows,  saying switch off your engine,  or get off the double yellows. Big Issue sellers could be allowed as well to get to their feet and walk up and down offering their magazine to drivers parked. Job creation and using common sense not G4s.

The jakies can't be trusted to feed themselves, not sure they'd make good operatives.

True, but they are plentiful.  There just needs a couple per shift.

Let them keep the 'On the spot fines', Stop all the other benefits they get.

They just need permission to hassle the tourists and residents rather than doing it freelance.

Anyway, there is no real By-Pass alternative as you said, they will just have to make the road a clearway and demolish some buildings get a big car park & Electric Chargers near the shops and businesses.

There are electric chargers at the car park in King street already.

Maybe time to copy Edinburgh and put in the double red lines.
