Dashcam instalation

Featured Replies

Hi guys I'm new here so hello.I'm about to install a blackvue in my octavia estate so my question is is there any fuse that stays on for a 30min to a hour on after ignition is off.I know that 12v sockets are on constantly but that is gonna drain battery or wear it out very quickly.Or has anyone used power magic pro how that works with skoda and does it drains battery? Many thanks

Most people piggyback off the rear wiper fuse, as this is switched live with the ignition.

Plenty of threads on this forum, with ‘how to’ photos.

you will need the power magic pro if you want to protect the battery on low voltage. I have mine 950s on as i want to see if some stupid (insert expletive) reverses into me in the car park. PMP will shut the camera down when the voltage hits the setting you choose using the selector and thus protecting the battery from full drainage.

Thanks Black_sheep instalation is not a problem but finding a fuse is.In my previous car i had cammera connected to 12v socket which was on for a 30min when you lock car but here in skoda there is no such a thing unfortunately.

JohnnyType2 which fuses you used for wires as im aware there is two live needed for magic pro!?Permanent live (red wire)which fuse you used for that and (yellow wire)can be used as Black sheep advise from rear wiper!?Thanks

A problem I've faced with my install, is that sometimes on startup, the unit is powered on briefly and then turns off until the start/stop has cycled.

Not entirely sure it's down to my hardware, as it worked perfectly fine on my Fabia on the same fuse, although that wasn't start/stop.

For that type of setup, you're likely to need a portable charger that can be topped up whilst driving around and as soon as the ignition is off, it starts feeding the camera for a period of time.

I cant remember the exact location but i have combines the 12v lighter mod to have the sockets switched and also connected the tail to the PMP supply. I used piggy backs which allow the installation of another source and give an extra output.

i think it was position 40 and 48, you can use a multi meter to test any empty fuse plug in the fuse box and use those.

the tail from the Yellow piggyback is running to the PMP as the permanent source.
