1.9 TDi turbo noise?

Featured Replies

I've only had my octy since December so I've always been driving with the windows up... it was quite 'nice' yesterday afternoon (all of 10 degrees) so I had the windows down.

Stupid question: How loud should the turbo be? With the window open, driving along in town, it is fairly audible as it does its job, sucking in air with a high pitched veeeeeeeeee noise as I accelerate.

Only wondering if it's meant to be that loud or not *embarassed*

mine sounds like this too. i quite like it tho:rofl: hope it will again when its fixed:O

Might goes vvveeeeeEEEEEEE - ch ch ch ch ch (as I lift off  )

no need to be embarrassed... when i forst had my vRS i asked the same question cause i thought a hose was loose when the turbo spooled...

adding an induction kit and recirc valve has only made it louder... which is nice... i'm also told things will improve when the TIP i've got to fit is in place.

If the turbo makes a chakka-chak noise between gear changes then the diverter valve might be knackered. It should be trying to maintain pressure by diverting it, not instantly releasing it to the atmosphere like the more common dump valves.

Aha, so it's meant to make that loud a hiss?

I'll remember to be impressed instead of worried next time. Thanks for that guys.
