Boot Tie Down Rings not “Simply Clever”

Featured Replies

Not only are they quite small, but they’re well hidden so you have to leave the rear floor section out (7 seater) in order for the tie down straps to function.

With both floor sections in place, protected by lots of cardboard and little planks of wood, I (really meaning my 2 servants) lifted a bike engine into the boot. I then wriggled it forward and removed the rear floor cover.

Criss-crossed a couple of tie down straps to secure the engine down hard onto my “pallet” for a wee trip in near future.

Then just had to throw the rear boot floor cover in alongside things as I need the full flat floor to remove the engine.

Note that extra cardboard “padding” had to be inserted to protect the trim near the forward tie down rings.

Of course, my plastic full size boot liner has to stay at home.

It really isn’t a very smart arrangement.

I’m sure my old Superb estate had a much better arrangement.

I'd say you remember correctly - my Superb 2 Estate has rails either side of the load space and you can slide the rings along them to any position you like. All are easily accessible and can be removed.

I know that not all Superbs had this - I dont think it was on the lower trim specs.  I'd kind of assumed it was the same with the Kodiaq but I think you have an Edition? If it isn't on that....bummer. Its a bigger space to have things roll about too - around 90 litres I think.

As do many Kodiaqs! There are 3 different layouts for the hooks/rings the cargo space of the Kodiaq, depending on 5/7 seats and whether you have a spare wheel. The 7 seater is probably the worst. The diagrams are on page 108 of the UK manual if you want to compare.
