Fitting coilovers

Featured Replies

I’ve read a few posts on various forums and have seen conflicting information.

I’m fitting coilovers to my car as 3 of the springs are snapped.

What do I need other than coilovers?

As far as I can tell for the back I’ll need the old bumpstops and the tubes which go over the rear dampers

No idea what I’ll need for the front as I’ve not taken that end apart yet. I’ve read I may need top mount bearing and something else from that end? Is what’s on there compatible?

Cheers

Front top mounts and bearings, nuts and bolts and depending on which kit it iOS and how low you're going you can either reuse the drop links or you'll need shortened ones..

So started doing the fronts and can’t get the pinch bolt to budge at all with a 600mm breaker

The ball joint on the end of the anti roll bar just spins. It has a spline hole in the end but can’t get a spline bit in because it’s all mangled for some reason.

Any advice?

Take it to a garage and see if they will loosen stuff off? Just get them to fit them for me? Ask if they can fit them while I help/watch?

have you tried using plenty of wd40 (preferably a good soak overnight) and if that fails give it some heat with a blow torch as the bolt might be seized in the hub.

as for the drop link if you are not planning to re-use them just tear the rubber boot and use some mole grips to stop them spinning or if you have an angle grinder just grind them off

Cheers for the advice. I’ve fitted the back and one of the fronts. The other side has WD40 all over it for tomorrow.

I took it to a garage and and asked them to loosen a few bolts. The bloke said you don’t need to take the driveshaft out the hub or drop the bottom arm, but I did both.

Took the steering knuckle off completely and then fitted it to the coilover before installing that to the car. A lot easier hammering downwards than upwards
