Laptop reassembly issue

At least you know your laptop is in good hands, Jon ;)

Right, laptop back together, new screen in and fitted fine - But it doesn't work.... It powers up, then goes Beeeeeeeep, and the screen doesn't come on. The ONLY thing I can think of is my butchering of the clip did something. Maybe there's more to those clips than just getting the two plugs on the pins (got them right way round)

Next step is cut both wires, and crimp to the plug off the smashed screen so I'm guarenteed to be using the right plug. ;) The wiring all matches colour wise and in guage too.

The guys in the factory were loading a heavy lump of metal onto a pallet this morning - I thought to myself "wouldnt a laptop be more suitable?" ;)

How do I know that I'll evcentually get this laptop back, with a 33" screen gaffer tapped to the keyboard? :D

 The irony and real PITA is that the screen itself is perfect. :( Goes in the area it needs to perfectly and has the same pink/white wiring.... I suspect its just this plug, so gonna do the plug join. :)

I must admit, its been fun - Never ever seen those ribbon connectors before. :)

So, for clairfication, you have a laptop from Jon on long term loan for Vag-Com purposes, and you put and engine on top of it which somehow smashed the screen...

:clapclap:

 :offchair: :hilarius:

Thats priceless mate.

Hope he gets it fixed... not holding out mcuh hope though, have you seen the wiring in his Fabia

:P

jason, be a bit careful with this. on the hot side of the inverter that drives the screen it's running at potentially lethal voltages.

does the ribbon connector match up OK?

Don't worry Mr womble - I never touched it while it was running. :D

Tom, you're about right. It'll teach me to have less faith in Skoda boot floors. ;)

The ribbon connector is a perfect fit - 20 pin. I just think its not powering up. Got the feeling that perhaps in the normal 2 pin plug there's some kind of earthing contact off one side, or similar which isn't being achieved in my butchered fitting style. I definitely know the pink and white plugs ARE on the pins they need to be, to work.

Going to solder them tonight - proper job. :D

Just do the usual, bang in some 6" nails

You should know here we just tie things together with bailing twine! :P I'll just get some off the load I'm using as a belt & braces at the moment. ;)
