Laptop reassembly issue

Featured Replies

I feel like I'm putting in a new engine again. :D Got myself a mismatch,

The plug adaptor on this Tosh 1800S is a two plug affair, but the plug on the new screen in a THREE plug affair, but with only two wires. So, I've chopped the 2 pin plug in half on the new screen. So I can shove one plug in each hole on the laptop. The screen has a pink and white wire, but I don't know which way round to put it. :(

Only way I might know for sure is get the smashed screen in to work, but its at home now so I can't check its wires and plug setup. :(

ANyone know perchance? If it helps the long strip the power plugs in to on the laptop has two plugs in a kind of 1/3 - 2/3 split - i.e one is quite a lot wider than tuther, but I can easily stick one of the pink or white wire on the pins inside each plug.

Thanks. :)

Normally coloured wire is +ve and white wire is -ve, but you might want to search the web/P2P networks for a Toshiba service manual. Make these sort of jobs much easier ;)

Chris

Just guess!

ahem, no. :P

Was hoping the 2/3 1/3 gap issue would help. I would guess the fatter one would generally be the power and negative in the smaller gap, but how to know for sure.

I guess pink is positive and white negative.

I'm sure Jon will be please to see you're taking good care of his laptop ;)

Hell, its my screen, I've yet to break anything on the laptop. :D Who knows what'll happen if I get +/- mixed up when it comes to powering it up. anyone smell burning?

A former colleague once got the power supply to a laptop wrong - he put 415v into it

Is that former as in you used to work with him, or former as in that was the last thing he ever did

Chris

 I used to work with him before I left ;)

Well, I've been given full rights to change whatever I like on this laptop, but I'd like that first change to be something other than melting it. Thanks. ;):D

All google is telling me is I can buy wiring schematics on CD for about $20.... Not wanting to do that. I think I'll just bring in the smashed screen tomorrow and match it up the laptop and work it out that way. :) At least the 20 pin in the back of the screen fits perfectly.

That sounds like the sensible thing to do - in the mean time you can research my springs as per the other thread ;)

Trying. :( Google is not my friend anymore. It was rubbish for info. Think I'll nip down Mr J.S. for some treats for lunch. yum. :D

What laptop is this? Have you been smashing laptop screens?

think its the one he uses for vag-com

It is actually Jon's (TaviaRS)

Its a Toshiba S1800 one. It was in the spare wheel well when the PD engine I was lugging about a while back decided to straight through the boot floor.... :( It broke the screen even through the boot bottom, the laptop bag and through the case as the laptop was shut. :( Oh well - It'll be working soon enough.

Yup - first class last night at around 5pm. Made it in there before my local P.O to work did their last collection. Will be in a brown padded envelope.

Good man - now I can continue to laugh at you for putting an engine ontop of a laptop

ba5tard. :D Wish I'd said no, until you made a public apology.

Looking back the wheel well should have been emptied by me, and then sat the sump in there. At least it would have stood semi-upright then. :o Probably wouldn't have dumped a litre of oil in the car then (on a tarp thank f***)

Why diddnt you ask one of your farming friends to take it in a Landie or on a trailer? (being from Devnon you must know a farmer or two;))

 at the thread title now ;)

I think I would have put a large piece of 3/4" plywood in the boot as a minimum, as well as tying the engine to the seat catches or the seatbelt anchors to stop it moving about.

Oh what a greeeeaaaaat thread
