Finally trading in MkII FL VRS

Featured Replies

I posted a few times on here recently while deciding what car to change to from my MkII FL VRS. With a couple of quick detours on the way to consider other options like the Superb Sportline (too big), Golf GTI (meh seats), Merc A class and even the new Focus ST-Line X, I've finally gone for a 67 plate Octavia VRS.

After another test drive, the grin said it all. Pick up on Friday, and a goodbye after 8 years to my MkII!

So thanks to those who chipped in on my previous posts

Congrats! I made the jump from a MK2 facelift VRS and it's better in almost every way. I'm sure you won't regret it!

May be my imagination, but it certainly felt like there was less road noise in the MK3

Unless you fit 8.5J wide alloys with 235/35R19 tyres then road noise will increase even with expensive rubber like PS4's. But worth it for the huge grip and traction. Even good in the wet conditions earlier today, managed to get the traction control light to flash for the first time in 2 weeks.

@SlimAdy I did very much the same.

Kept my Mk2 petrol vRS FL DSG Estate with leather and Columbus from new in 2010 for 7 years.

Now have a 2014 Mk3 petrol vRS DSG 220 Estate. Columbus and Pano. Better in nearly every way.

You will LOVE the new car. Have fun!

Thanks, looking forward to it! Out of interest, you say "nearly every way" - what dont you think is better?

I wouldn't buy one without the black design pack - found that makes the split lights....easier to like, which was my main niggle. I didn't really want/was fussed about the 19" Xtreme alloys, especially after seeing the difference in price for tyres...but, it's a small thing really

Handbrake position and bonnet release lever are the two main ones for me. Not something that overly bothers me but it reminds you of a cheap/lazy LHD to RHD conversion.

Now you mention it...I did find the handbrake position a bit weird!

Except the fuel tank size in the mark 3 and filling the last couple of litres !
