Fabia MK2 Monte Caliper size

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently in the middle of upgrading the front breaks on my 2011 Monte. I have brought bigger Discs and the pads to go with them.

They're Brembo Max 288mm discs, will I need to change my Carriers/ Calipers?

Need advice please

It's a Petrol 105bhp model, with the 256mm breaks

thanks

Welcome.

Sorry no idea, but for those that do know so they know what size brake discs it has now, is it a 105ps Petrol or Diesel, there are less powerful Monte Carlo's with smaller discs.

105 should have 288 standard if you’ve got 256 then you’ve got a lower powered monte

If you do actually have 256mm front brakes then you have to change the bearing carriers (hubs) over so you can fit the 288mm carrier.

IIRC the diesel has 288mm front brakes, but the petrol has 256mm brakes.

Any recommendations for new carriers?

You will need calipers and carriers from a 288mm equipped vehicle.

Load of standard calipers left over from people upgrading the MK1 Fabia vRS.

Although you could argue if going to the expense of replacing the bearing carriers and bearings you might as well go to 312mm.

I've seen people putting Audi Calipers on from the MK1 TT, would that also work?

Also, sure my car is 256mm brakes... guessing it means I have slower model :(

What is the Co2 g/km on your cars V5?

Your car is insured, did you tell them it is a 105ps, did you buy a 105ps .   Is it a petrol or a diesel?

It is 121 G/KM

It's a petrol, and I did buy and insure it as a 105ps.

I believed that the 105ps is Co2 of 124 g/km and the 86ps 121 g/km.    Someone will correct me if wrong or confirm hopefully.

Is it possible that the previous owner had new discs and pads and the technician installed the smaller discs in error?

It does, even the 105bhp petrol has 256mm brakes, only the diesel has 288mm which are the same as the MK2 vRS.

Yes you can fit the TT brakes, but you would still need to change the hubs over.

With the difference between 256 and 288mm disc brakes, I'd very much doubt that, unless it was a very resourceful "operative" from a certain naughty motor trading chain, but even then not likely, daughter's old 6K Ibiza was treated to two different versions of discs at the front prior to her buying it - idiots!

Edit:- that Ibiza came with a full 1,000,000 or so point check so was guaranteed to be spot on and ready for sale, I missed that point as well, it was only when cleaning the brakes a year or so later that I thought "what the ????" so needed to get out and buy new discs and pads!

So guessing if I bet calipers for the VRS they'd fit? Not sure on engine code, will update later

Yes vRS calipers would fit from the MK1 or MK2 Fabia, but obv still need to change hubs.

The standard brakes stop the car in normal use, & do not overheat on UK roads with 60 mph NSL's, so are you taking it to the track?

you can get better standard sized discs and pads, better fluid and better brake pipes.
