MK2 06 Octavia VRs Fuel pump Cam Follower.

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I decided to lift the air filter off to replace the fuel pump cam follower this morning. I noticed that the pipe with a tie wrap around it is split, not surprising as it seems to be missing the bracket to support it from the air filter. Does anyone know what the pipe does? The air filter also has a location grommet missing at the front LH. It looks like the previous owner was an abuser of cars!!!!

In the other picture one of the fuel pipes seems to be held in position with a banjo bolt which looks a bit inaccessible. What size socket fits it and can I get in without removing a lot more parts?

Thanks for any help in advance.

John

I don't have a TFSI myself but was recently looking around for a mate also with a 2006 petrol vRS. This video is useful and may shed some light on your questions:

I've found out about the pipe which I put a tie wrap around, I had a suspicion, its confirmed as the Brake Vacuum pipe. It wouldn't be so good if it popped off!!! It seems like a few Skoda models have a problem with this pipe. I will find out tomorrow where the other end is located, behind the engine by the looks. Has anyone replaced it on an Octavia?

Today I have replaced the cam follower for the HP fuel pump. It isn't a too difficult job, but I made sure that I created space and access by removing a few extra parts. My biggest problem was creating enough room to undo the Banjo bolt on the underside of the fuel pump. It started to undo with a T40 Torx socket. I then released the three bolts on the pump and removed two bolts on the fuel pipes running across the Inlet manifold to release tension on the banjo. When I removed the Banjo it looked to need a finer Torx socket as the engagement teeth were a bit damaged. This also led me to believe that the cam follower under the pump has been replaced at some time in the past. The old follower was in excellent condition.

The T40 Torx socket is incorrect but was the only one which would fit due to it being damaged previously. An M8  spline socket is the correct socket. Its worth noting that loosening up the pump off its housing gives better access to undo this banjo bolt.

Yeah. I Still haven't watched the video and it's an 07 Mankee :-p
