Hello forum!

Featured Replies

New to both the forum and Skodas in general. Bought my first one (Fabia 1.4 16v, MY2002) a couple of weeks ago in a panic, since I needed a car to go to work the next day. So, the Fabia was available and I bought it unseen.

The plan was to just drive it until I found something better, but I turned out to love it and decided to keep it. It had a few minor issues, but with a bit of elbow grease and some help from this forum it's now fully functional and in good shape!

Oh, by the way... I’m 40+ years old, live on the countryside in Sweden, I’m a trained mechanic although I haven’t been in the profession for 15 or so years. I have a reasonably well equipped workshop and am able to do most repairs myself.

Looking forward to getting to know more about Skodas, as well as getting to know some of you guys!

A warm welcome to the Forum !

Thanks! Yes, never bought a car that way before. Seller advertised it for 7100 SEK (~600 GBP), I rang him and said I'll take it off his hands for 7500 SEK if he delivered it to me, no questions asked. So he did, and I was happily surprised how good the little Skoda is!

Hello, you are very cool! How is the weather in Sweden?

Hehe, cool I don't know... cold would be a better description. Weather here is cloudy with bursts of rain, around 15 degC. We had a glorious summer though, around 30 degC everyday lasting from May to mid August.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I've been browsing through the threads and I'm impressed with the level of knowledge, courteousness and willingness to help out. Seems like Skoda people are a little better than the rest ;)

So what did I have to do to my little Fabia to get it up to par?

- Replaced droplinks and ARB bushings

- Replaced trailing arm bushings (PSB ones, front and console)

- Wipers front and back

- Brake shoes (handbrake didn't work, turned out the lining had separated from one of the shoes.. whatever happened to riveted linings??!)

- General maintenance: Oil+filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake+clutch fluid

Only thing left is micro switch drivers door. Ripped apart the door card and inner panel, now I'm struggling with how to get the cable off from the outer door handle. If I'm not successful searching the forum, I will post a new thread. Brace for impact! :D
