2018 Skoda Superb

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have just bought a 2018 Skoda Superb SE L executive and I am wondering is there any way it can be made to have keyless entry and start?

I have emailed several auto electrical companies and some say yes and some say no.

It was available as a factory extra but I am wondering can it be added on now?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Anything in theory can be done. But in honesty i think it wont be worth the hassle. New wiring looms, new control units, new door handles, new keys, ignition start/stop button, not sure if its the same size where ignition barrel is so maybe new steering coloumn trims?

Plus with the security issue of having keyless entry and start, im not sure many would want this retrofitting.

I can’t help wondering why?

I am new to these kind of things online .

I only asked if it were possible as I wanted it done.

I enjoy NOT having to mess around in the rain looking for keys when driving my wifes Nissan. You walk up to it carrying bags, with keys in your bag or jacket and open door and away you go!

I dont understand why that annoys some people and thought the purpose of these forums was to try and help other people and not pass comment on if you liked it or not is that not how this works?

I appriciate the message from Adrian 55555  as its helpful information but I dont think smart comments are helpful from others.

I have looked at this site and marvel at strangers helping one anther and think thats GREAT and some of the ideas you share are also really good, but if its going to be people making cheeky comment then count me out!

I does not have to be this way , if you dont have something helpful to say then good or bad why comment at all?

@Impeezer - welcome. This forum is a pretty friendly place overall, and I don't sense any annoyance and I haven't seen any cheeky comments. "Why" is a fair question IMHO - a number of people (including myself) have changed our minds about things when someone has said "are you sure?" You will get a lot more help if you ignore comments you don't feel are helpful and just respond to those you feel are. Works for me:)

FYI I have KESSY and sure it's convenient, but I certainly wouldn't rip my car to bits to install it (FWIW I wouldn't buy it as an option - it was standard on mine). As Adrian has noted, it's going to need everything from new door handles to significant re-wiring. I suspect if you get it done outside the dealer network it could invalidate the warranty, so that's something else to check out. Having done a quick search I can't find anyone who has done this - indicating it's not a small undertaking or a popular modification. I'm guessing (and it is just a guess) that by the time everything including dealer labour is added into the mix you would find it cheaper to change the car for one that has KESSY than it is to retrofit on your car, crazy as that might sound. None of this is a reason not to do it of course, just pointing out some of the cons to consider against the pros.

If you do decide to go ahead, please keep us updated - it would certainly be an interesting modification. In the meantime enjoy the new car!

Have you taken delivery yet? SEL got keyless as standard from about April build onwards.

I would imagine retrofit of OE keyless would be prohibitively expensive with many looms, additional/replacement control units, reprogramming, new door parts/handles , steering column replaced and looms removed/replaced and lots more beside, maybe even a new dash to accommodate the start/stop button??

A poor man's aftermarket job may be poopooed by insurance as it would likely invalidate the vehicle's thatcham nvsa rating.

My Superb has KESSY my wifes  Mk4 VW Golf has a traditional key.  I use both cars on a daily basis, I have never ever taken the Golf out and wished the car had KESSY.  I don't actually give it a second thought. It's no more or less of a convenience/inconvenience.  I still have to carry a key and I still have to open my own door and I still have to make some sort of contact with the steering column.   So based on my own experience the KESSY retrofit wouldn't be worth it, even if it was cheap and easy to do.  However it's likely to be very expensive and will require a lot of work.

If you want/need it that much why not spec it or find a car that had it fitted?

For me it falls into the category of a job that should be done at the factory or not at all.

Hi there.

My car is registered April 2017 and I have keyless entry / KESSY.

Depends on spec. Mine is a 67 plate sportline which comes with kessy as standard.
