Right reversing light - intermittent fault

Featured Replies

Hello all, just wondered if anyone had similar experience of a dodgy right reversing light and what was needed to sort it?

About 80% of the time, I start the car and within a couple of seconds get the bulb warning lamp and a message on the MFD telling me to check the right reversing light. Ive replaced both bulbs, swapped left with right, and still get the warning most of the time.

So, Im guessing there is a short somewhere in the wiring for the reversing lights. Before I go dismantling the bootlid, just wondered if anyone could point me to likely fail points in the wiring. Or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether?

Thanks in advance

Adam

Not sure if yours is the twin-door but if it is there is a great thread showing a twindoor wiring "wear"/"snap" issue and how to fix it! Usually first symptom is one light becomes dodgy - worth fixing before the opening buttons stop working!

Must admit after reading this I usually open my (just a single button push on my facelift) twindoor as a hatch rather than a boot unless I'm in a restricted height location such as a ferry or multi-storey car park.

So on the 13-15 Superbs the default boot opening is full (as a hatchback), opposite to the earlier models?

On the 13-15 facelift Superb twin-door

  • Midde button on boot pushed once opens the boot
  • OR right boot button pushed once opens as a hatch (which I do )

The button on the key-fob still opens it as a boot.

Didn't know that they changed the boot buttons behavior ... so, what this means is that it might be possible to re-code or refit something to get the same functionality on the pre-FL models as well ... :)

My 2011 twin door requires 2 button pushes to open the hatch, 1st right hand button to select hatch then middle button

to open the hatch.

On the facelift (introduced late 2013)  model the twin door button operation was changed/simplified. Mine has always opened as a hatch with one press of the right hand button. I'm not sure if this can be coded to the pre FL? - all the mechanical bits seem the same.

I do find the twin door function handy though and use the boot access from time to time. Infact just used it crossing over to Zeebrugge on the ferry from Hull - I always leave my overnight luggage handy so I can get it by just opening the boot as head height on some of the decks is very restricted.

I'll miss the twin door when I get my next car (Superb?, Karoq? or something else?) . What I won't miss is the lack of a rear wash wipe!

Yeah sorry my bad, just reread the thread and missed the FL part. I agree I would miss the twin door, having had a MK1

I wouldn't buy a 'saloon' again, much prefer hachbacks :)
