PCH

Featured Replies

What's people's views on PCH? Are they relatively good value for money? Any horror stories about being taken for a ride at hand back and charged lots more money?

Are you allowed to take the car abroad for holidays etc?

I quite fancy doing a stint of changing cars every two years to try something different but don't know if PCH is the best route. We don't do huge miles.

Which ones are good companies to lease from? I googled and there are so many.

Skoda dealers will get you a PCH via VW Finance. Other companies may charge an admin fee to do the deal, VWFS don't. Money wise some cars are good to lease, some are not. Do the maths! You can end up paying a lot less on PCH than PCP.

Based on your needs I'd say PCH is best.  IME VWFS via a Skoda dealer were the cheapest on my previous Superb, significantly so.  As above they don't charge any middle-man/admin fees so I guess that saving is reflected in the lease cost.

You can get a preferential early termination (PET) on a VWFS PCH too, e.g you want to get out the agreement early then you just need to find a dealer willing to buy you out the lease but you must take out another VWFS backed product to replace your lease.  VWFS will provide the dealer with a termination quote and depending on where you are in your contract you may need to pay the difference directly to the supplying dealer in order to makeup any shortfall.  You don't have to stick to a Skoda either, any VAG dealer can do this.  Some don't like to though, to all intents and purposes it's the same as a p/x where you still owe finance.

EDIT: You also have the option of buying at the end of a VWFS lease (can't recall if it has to be someone other than the person named on the lease though, e.g a partner).  I know someone who done a 3 year PCH and bought their A6 Avant S Line at the end of the term.  It worked out thousands cheaper for him when compared to the same car on a PCP product.

Also can I ask if there are issues in taking the car abroad under a PCH deal? Is it a kaffafle getting permissions, I need to be able to go abroad at short notice potentiality

Usually yes but you need to request permission in advance. VWFS allow it but you do need to ask.

If you want to change every couple of years then PCH is definitely the way forward.

They say anything under 25% of list price is a good deal, anything under 20% is exceptional. By that I mean, 24 x monthly payments. Does that figure equal 25% or less of the list price of the car.

Whatcar, leasing.com and parkers all have search tools to find you the best deal. Good luck!

interesting, so 20-25% over a 2 year deal, what about 3 or 4 years  as some deals are better over those periods?

In all honesty, avoid 3-4 year deals. It's not very often a 3 year deal will be exceptionally better than a 2 year deal. Maybe £10-15 here and there, but you're in the realm of then needing to give it 2 services, maybe a set of tyres and possibly an MOT before it goes back.

4 years avoid at all costs. In the 4th year, you're out of manufacturer warranty and you'll be liable for anything that goes wrong with the car. So you could end up spending thousands on a car you don't own and that you need to hand back. Not for me!
