Transport Blocks

Featured Replies

Hi, I just want to say thanks to the many posters who have  previously identified suspension transport blocks that have not been removed at PDI as causing "crashy and noisy" suspension. Since  I collected my SE L in June the ride on the driver's side has been less than perfect. After researching the forum I decided to jack up the car this morning and take a look and guess what I found - two transport blocks still on the suspension on the driver's side. None on the nearside. I removed them and ride is now what I tested back at the dealership back in June. I will now inform the dealership of this issue.

Thanks again to the posters who identified this issue.

In the case of transport blocks I think it's fair to name and shame the delivering dealer, to alert others who have bought from the same place.

An email to Skoda UK wouldn't go amiss even if they are likely to ignore it.

The least the dealer should give you is a free service

Hi, supplying dealer was Caffyns, Tunbridge Wells.  My car is a personal lease from them and VWFS.

I'll copy Skoda UK as well but do not expect any consideration whatsoever. As far I know no harm has been done but I will confirm with dealer.

Registering the problem avoids arguments about the reason for subsequent related premature 'wear and tear'.

Agreed, especially as I have the car for three years.

What do they look like?

It seems the South East doesn't fare too well with this particular problem.

I took collection of a new Octavia Estate 3+ weeks ago and have driven around 500 miles since. On motorways and smooth surfaces the ride has been OK but as soon as I ventured onto minor roads with uneven surfaces and potholes the ride became awful. I asked my dealer - Birchwood, Eastbourne - if they could explain but they had no suggestions but did offer to inspect the car. They quickly found that the plastic transport blocks hadn't been removed during the PDI  and once removed the ride was fine.

I insisted on the whole PDI being redone - if they missed that what else might they have missed ? - and the suspension system being thoroughly checked for any potential damage. I will ask for a free service and a written guarantee that any subsequent suspension problems will be their responsibility, not mine.

Watch this space.

There is a warning hanger placed in the car to notify the technician that they are fitted. They aren't fitted to all cars and depending on what type is fitted are quite well hidden.

What can happen with VWFS cars (and no excuses here) is they are not usually PDI'd by the dealer. They were historically managed by QEK Logistics (think they still are) and I would wager as they are being transported from QEK (Upper Heyford) to the supplying dealer they leave them in to prevent bumper damage whilst loading. All depends on how the dealer then prepares that car for handover.

I think transport blocks are fitted only to cars with lowered/Sport suspension from the factory.

For the most part this is true. Unless it has a particularly low bumper.

Hello Derek

Three and a bit years ago, Birchwood left the transport blocks in my vRS when I took it out for a pre-arranged test drive.  Funnily enough the ride quality in mine was also considerably better without them.  Some things obviously never change 🙄
