Superb - noise coming from dashboard/air vent

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am a proud owner of Skoda Super MK3 and absolutely love the car. However, there is a small problem that bothers me and still can't be solved.

There is this noise (something like vibration/rattle - not sure how to describe it) coming from just under the air vent at the right-hand side of the steering wheel. It's not a constant noise but happens quite often when we go somewhere out of London. Seems to be triggered by road surface (especially when it's not that good). I brought the car twice to a Skoda dealer. The first time they couldn't reproduce the noise and didn't do anything. The 2nd time they did some work on it, claimed it's fixed, but a week later we went to Tunbridge Wells and guess what - the noise is back.

Does anyone have an idea what's causing this noise and how this can be fixed? Here's a link to a video of it.

Many thanks in advance!

When you took the car in to the dealer did you go on a road test with a technician to replicate the noise to them?  Or did u just explain the issue and handed keys over?

If its an intermittant noise its very hard for them to locate if it isn't happening when it goes in yo them.

The 2nd time we did a road test but we couldn't replicate the noise. So they only saw a video of the noise happening.

With this problem, one can't be sure when it's gonna happen (it can easily take an hour or 2 of driving).

Yeah thats the issue with intermittant noises and not being able to replicate the noise.

When it happens does it stay? If so try taking it in just for a road test with a technician... This way they may have more of an idea... And a booking can be made.  This is what we used to tell customers... The other was to let it get worse so it does it more often... This isnt always possible if it doesnt get worse.

Thanks for the advices.

Yes, it does stay usually. Once it starts it can stay until I finish driving a couple of hours later.

Yep so best is to speak to service manager and explain that if its possible that next time u go on a drive and you are nearby that u can pop in just for a 5-10min road test with a technician so they can hear it.

Thanks!

Did you end up working out what the problem was? I have the exact same issue and it's driving me crazy.

I have a knocking sound just behind the dash/central vents not long after I start the car and drive away. Pretty much happens most times I start and drive away. Only happens for around 3 sec and then it’s gone. Still annoying and it just doesn’t sound right (ie sounds as though something is wrong).
