Water Pump Failure???

Featured Replies

On my way home on the M60 tonight, exited the 40mph limit through the road works and put my foot down.....the temp gauge went up as quick as the speedo!!!

Warning light and chime came on, immediately dropped the clutch, coasted to a stop on the hard shoulder and checked under the bonnet, no leaks...started the car up and it is at 90 Deg C as normal, any heavier load on the car makes the temp start to creep up over 90, looks like the Water pump crappy plastic impeller has died:mad:

This should be done by VAG free as it is, in my mind a manufacturing fault, there are so many cars in the VAG range that suffer this....but as is the norm they just ignore it!

Well, will be on the phone to Awesome GTI tomorrow to see if I can get it booked in ASAP to get it done along with the Cambelt and tensioner!

get a firstline water pump instead of a vag one mate, all metal and cheaper :)

How old is your car and what is the mileage?

Car is July 2003 but has now done 66K, mainly M'way mileage though

Will post it later today, They did a price match on a local dealer but They said that they are looking to do it for this price in the future, don't want to publicly post the price just yet as they are looking into this i.e sourcing the parts for a bit less.

Hi Mate

Good to see you yesterday.

You was quite lucky with that water pump.

So we can do that and then at least you know then that you will have a metal impella now.

See you later

Sarah

Cheers Guys, good to see you all, had another sleepless night, now on pro plus washed down with espresso ( not caramel flavoured Sarah!!!!).

The water pump impeller was absolutely shot and the bearing seemed to be stiff so was on its way out in one way or another, at least I have now got the reassurance of a new cambelt and all the associated bits:thumbup:

good hear, in the same boat here :)
