DSG oil change required?

Featured Replies

Our 2016 1.4Tsi is about to hit 60k, is it DSG oil change time?  Also any idea what the timing belt intervals are?

It is not DSG oil change time for your DQ200 DSG because they do not need oil changes.

Just those 2009-2013 that were part of the World Wide Recall that was just a Service Campaign in Europe.

Ask Skoda Ireland Customer Services about the Timing Belt interval for Ireland or any other world region,

it would be nice to know if they know, or know someone that can tell them.

Remember and say you own the car and are keeping it and are not interested in what Fleet Users are told.

& you are in Ireland, not Australia, or South America, or even Central or Eastern Europe.

Really, I thought the oil did need changing?

Theres different dsg boxes. Some require it some dont

My dealer service dept told me the oil now need changing every 3 years irregardless of mileage. 1.4tsi DQ200. I said are you sure? Yes they said it was recently introduced requirement.

So I ordered a manual instead.

Not sure if it's true or BS or just plain ignorance.

Could be a plan to weasel out of warranty/goodwill.....

Any way to find out other than asking the dealer, who will invariably say yes?

When I bought the Leon 1.4 TSi 140 PS (same engine as the Superb without ACT) the dealer had no idea about cam belt changes, initially quoted every 30,000 miles which was nonsense obviously. So I e-mailed Seat Customer Services an this is pasted form the reply:

"I am delighted to confirm that on your SEAT Leon, we recommend the cam belt is first checked at 60,000 miles, and every 20,000 miles thereafter. If there is no damage at these points the cambelt will not need changing. If the belt is not changed, regardless of condition, it must be replaced at 120,000 miles or when the vehicle is 5 years old, whichever comes first."

There is no guarantee that Skoda specify the same and Ireland could be totally different but you would think that since all the engines are made in the Skoda Factory for all VAG brands there would be a bit of consistency.

Thats the six speed DSG not the seven speed.

Best say before another error made online.

7 speed twin dry clutch DSG have no Service Guideline / Schedule on Oil changes, some owners do have the oil changed. See the General Maintenance section.

7 Speed Wet clutch DSG do need 40,000 mile oil changes.   Audi might even call them a S-tronic & say 38,000 miles, because they can.

S-tronics can come as DQ200's so no oil change then.   but if wet clutch and not a DQ200 does need servicing....

Vorsprung Durch Technik, call things the same or different names and even the Manufacturers Employees get confused.

I have always been cautious and had mine done between 35-38k on previous dsg's ive had.

^^^ Were any of those DQ200 DSG like the OP is asking about which do not require Oil changes?

Nope all 6 speed wet clutches.

I am at 12K miles and 18 months old now on my 280 and will be doing it earlier as over cautious like @Adrian55555

Will be doing the gearbox oil at 30K miles max.

Next service in Jan 2019 will be changing the haldex oil and having the filter cleaned for sure.  These need doing more frequently

than people think if they have a 4 x 4 system;)

Obviously it does not need doing if you do not have the 4x4 system....

So you are doing the Haldex before 20,000 miles & 24 months,  and the DSG @ 30,000 miles.

Never really heard of DSG issues with those serviced to the Scheduled oil changes.

 ?

Do you know something others with Haldex do not know, plenty do 20-30,000 miles a year.

@Adrian55555  Was with VW Group after sales, does he know something Skoda / VW is not telling us, or was it just servicing at mates rates.

I had it at mates rates yes and generally had dsg oil left over from jobs. Warranty repairs/replacements most of the time stated 7 bottles but usually used 6 bottles. So over time we had a lot kicking about lol. At staff rate and just a cost of a filter it was cheap for me to do lol

Its a bit confusing but from what you are saying the DQ200 DSG does not requite oil changes (which seems odd), but there is no harm in getting it done. Skoda are quoting €195 for oil and filter.

To be totally clear.  the DQ200 7 speed Twindry Clutch DSG's do not require oil changes and there is no Servicing Guidelines or Schedules for them.

(Some members have decided to DIY change the oil.)

Skoda build 2,200 of them a day.

So ask the Dealerships Master Tech about it because it is highly likely the Service Desk staff do not know their ar53 from elbow and just look at the computer screen.

In this thread there is a member changing the oil because he believes the mineral oil requires changing.

VW / Skoda have not changed their Guidelines / Schedules though.

@ 40,000 miles i would be opening the Airbox and looking to see if there is a new clean air filter needed.

Also removing all 4 spark plugs to check, and since out as well fitting new ones, checking each for the pre-set gap.

Then check the 4 removed and see how they are after 40,000 miles or more.

Yep totally agree. Ive seeb it happen many of times. They see dsg and think dsg service.  There are so many unqualified/untrained service advisors out there its untrue!
