Rimblades pro - fitting instructions How To - And Review

Featured Replies

Hi folks

i’ve been reading a fair bit about rim protection and the two choices seemed to be rim blades stick on and cut to size or alloy gator hammer in jobbies.

The issue with alloy gators is I didn’t want something that I had to deflate my tyres and hammer them in. Plus the reviews mentioned people having to hammer them back in.

The rim blades also weren’t attractive as lots of people say they fling off and weren’t strong enough to take the hit.

so I decided to try rimblades pro - https://rimblades.com/rimblades-pro/

These seem to be harder material, cut to size and already rim shaped. So I thought I’d give them a go and do a write up:

step 1 - wash the alloys really well!

step 2 - open up pack and use the alcohol wipes to remove any final debris

step 3 - apply the bonding agent they supply and leave for 2-5 minutes. The peel off the adhesive backing from the rim protector and accurately apply to the rim. Finally make sure you insert the rim protector back into the clip they supply to close the circle off.

leave for 24 hrs and not drive above 40mph and then fully bonded after 72hrs.

so far so good. Plastic is bery hard and the bonding agent seems good.

will report back on how it goes.

Sorry forgot to mention prices:

rim blades normal - about £20 to £30

rim blades pro - £55

alloygators - £80 plus fitting

Thanks for the write up.

Very interested in these as I have my car on PCH and really don't want my wheels kerb modified. So the question is as they're stuck on.. how do you remove them? ;)

I fitted rim blades to my alloys. Only two left (rear wheels). Fronts came off at 70mph on motorway. Now left with glue residue on wheels. Still I would rather have them than the hassle with alloygators.

alloygators will rub the paint off your rims.... eventually.

I think I'll chance it without either, I park carefully.. It really wasn't going to be for my benefit but for my other half lol. So do any decent tyres still come with rim protectors? Been out of the perf car tyre game for a while now.

The big issue is the Gemini wheel design negates any rim protection the tyre has. If you look at the wheel the lip sticks out quite a bit from where the tyre meets the rim.

Bugger, you're right of course! :( I just hope my wife doesn't attempt too much parallel parking.

My step Dad who's in the car business pointed the wheels out when he saw them and said you should get some rim protectors on those which started my search for something that might work.

Quick update - 2 months in and no issues still stuck on well. Spoke to Darren from Rim Blades who has been most helpful abd said they have an update which is special glue to glue the clip in place.

sent in the post FOC and glued the outside of the clips with the protectors still on.

darren also sells the spray to remove the glue if you need to.

Very happy with them, will update with pics though car is pretty muddy

Hi, can you tell me where youbought the rimblades pro for circa £55? They are £199 on the rimblades website! Thanks

I like the concept, but I'm not paying two tons for plastic hoops and clips!

if i HAD to choose one it would be the alloygators, there's no way those rim blades are staying on with my driving style.
