Skoda Felica Brake problems/questions

Featured Replies

Hi!

I had some work done on my Felicia a week or two ago, including new fron discs and pads. It all seemed good, but a day or two after I picked the car up the ABS and Brake Fluid warning lights came on on the dash board. Odd i thought! anyway, I phoned the garage, and they said it was probably that the fluid had settled out or something? So I checked the brake fluid level, and it was perfect, but the lights still come on. The exact symptoms are that the two lights stay on for a lot longer than normal when I start the car, and then eventually go out - but then they come back on after about a couple of mintues of driving. I phoned the garage again, and the got a bit defensive and siad that the lights wont be anything to do with the work that they have done, but they will have a look anyway. Does this sound right? It just seems a bit odd that the lights come on after they do some work? Also they cant look at the car for ages, so if anyone has any ideas that would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Alex.

i dont have ABS on my felicias but i am thinking they did not bleed the system perhaps?

Yeah, I really cant think of anything else... is it right for me to assume that them working on the brakes is likely to have something to do with the lights comming on?!?

well if we both think the same ????

brake fade could be a risk!!!! get it sorted, air could be in the system

if they hadnt bled the brakes fully you would get a seriously spongey pedal. It would feel very wrong and when you pumped it 3/4 times the pedal would build up to correct stiffness again.

Far more likelly to be an electrical problem or damage to the ABS system itself. Id suggest a loose wire somewhere if the pedal feels fine.

You might find that when changing the brakes they havent clipped te ABS sensor wiring back in properly and its may have rubbed out on something and gone open circuit.

Ok.... I got a call from them today, saying the garages diagnostic bloke wasnt in, so there was no point bringing my car in - which i thought was odd (cos i thought it was down to not bleeding the system properly), but if it might be to do with the abs sensor or whatever it makes sense. Well anyway, they did the work, and they can fix it/do it properly, Im not gonna risk having a go at it myself. Cheers for the help!
