Airbag warning light - 01221

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have an airbag warning light which has came on, had it turned off to see if it was going to come back and it has.

I thought it may be the sensor under the seat but looks like it may be a wire/wires in the door.

Can anybody advise if this is a big job and a rough price for the repair? Really it is just repairing or replacing these two wires and fit information the code out,

Any advice?

Anyone at all?

Judging by the other bodged bit of tape, someone's had that door off and not put the wiring back together substantially enough, so my guess would be it's be fudged together before with it all working up to know so it just need refixing/resoldering, but properly this time.

I did wonder about that bit of tape on the other wires to be honest :)

If it's just the insulation that's worn through, I'd be tempted to depin the connector and use some heatshrink. It'll stop them shorting and should offer some stress relief too.

Definitely worth checking under the tape too while you're in there.

Weak point on the MkII golf was where the wires went through the rubber gaitor on the hatchback to the wipers, etc. and this looks exactly the same.

Sadly it's not just the sleeving, some of the internal wires look split. As the code says an intermittent / faulty signal I guess sometimes they connect and sometimes they sit apart depending on movement.

I have it booked in at a place 7 days from now.

Connector under the seat.

Checked it, seems fine but is a possibility if the above split wire doesn't sort it!
