Tailgate warning beeps

Featured Replies

My 2014 estate has an electric tailgate which would not have been my choice but 2nd-hand buyers can't be choosers.

When opened from the key fob or the button in the car it gives a series of loud warning beeps which are a pain. Jokes about "delivery trucks" and "is it bin night?" get old quickly. The only way to avoid it is to use the manual button on the lid which then rises s-l-o-w-l-y while I wait.

Is there a way to turn the damn beeper off?

My local dealer said not but maybe there is an unofficial method?

Also I find it counter-intuitive that it beeps on opening but not when closing. The worst the opening tailgate would do is give someone a soft nudge as it stops if it hits resistance. However, when closing it could trap a child or pet. Out of interest I let mine close on a folded towel, expecting it to stop, like the sensors on windows. To my surprise, it shut firmly, squeezing the towel hard - nasty if it was a kid's hand or a dog's tail.

Yes with VCDS. That's the first thing I had done by a member at the RAF Cosford meet. Reversing bin lorry comes to mind

Thanks Gav. I'll look into that but, being a complete technonumpty, I expect I will have to find someone like you did.

Thanks but I already have that - just want it to open without the beeps!
