Octavia horns

Featured Replies

Had a look on history regarding replace horn.Heart sunk when it showed you have to take whole bumper assembly off. is that right for my 61 plate.?.

I can't say for your year.

The info I initially found to access the wiper wash pump on my 06 also suggested a major disassembly.

However in practice, it's just a simple case of pulling the small piece of grill on the left (as you look at the car), removing the foglight and you have access to it and the horn.

VAG usually put the horn at the front of the car behind the bumper so it stands to reason that you have to remove the bumper to access it but in reality you may be able to get it via a grill or from under the car if you have arms like Mr Tickle.

I’ve tried to pull the small pieces of grill off, I swear they have been glued in is there a knack to it?

I feel for you as I had the same problem when I wanted to get to a drl bulb. Many people on here suggested the grill/trim just needs a good hard pull on the side nearest the centre of the car. Initially I did this until I was afraid of breaking it, but without success. I then decided to pull as hard as I could expecting to break the trim but I still couldn't get it out. People posted that once you have it out once then next time it is easier.

In the end I got to the drl bulb by taking out some screws out on the wheel arch cover and putting my hand behind the cover.

Next time I will try using something to warm up the plastic first.

What year is your car? It may be harder on late models.

They are clipped in top and bottom and I have found that the bottom comes off easier than the top. I removed mine in the summer when my DRL bulb failed by just pulling at the bottom and then prising the top out. You may find it easier if you use a hairdryer to heat up the piece of grill and make it more complient.

Just give them a good pull straight forward, don't worry about breaking anything, tough stuff and you'll see how simple the plastic grips once it's off.

You'll need a torx bit to remove foglight.

Thanks for that about using hair dryer it worked ok, bit fiddly pushing it back though. How ever no way could I get to horn through that small aperture.

@pastiche

The FL must have a redesign behind the bodywork, there's plenty of room when you remove a foglight on a pre FL.

Just a update on our horn problem. Went to our local Skoda where they had ordered a new horn . About 10/15 minuets later fitter came out saying all done. Then he said it was not plugged in !. Bit embarrass about that, do not know how it came out, they said never had it happen to their knowledge. The other bit I asked was which method did he use to get to horn, on here it was mentioned through grill, or take off bumper, or go through wheel arch. He done wheel arch, I thought that was quick. Charged £23. Before it was £80+.

When my horn died i took out the foglight / cover and also took the wheel off and the mudguard liner.  Between the two it was easy to access
