Really simple and quick oil question

First day I've been off since getting hold of the Occy, and just had a look around the engine.

Did a quick oil dip test and the oil seems very thick and far blacker than I'm used too on other engines I've had over the year.

Is the oil as standard supose to be like this, as I've just checked the service sheet from the dealers and new oil and filter has been ticked off as done.

Just playing on the safe side here!
