Bolero Head unit, Octavia 1.4tsi

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just bought the above motor which I’m very pleased with, but I’m not as impressed with bolero radio or with it’s seemingly limited functionality. The radio in My wifes Peugeot 207 of the same year seems to be able to play music from an iPad/iPod via blue tooth and do hands free etc. Am I missing something here, it does seem to have blue tooth enabled but there is no way of pairing it to my phone. It has a telephone symbol on one of the buttons but all it seems to do is mute the radio. Surely this big fancy screen does more than this.     Kind regards John.

Not necessarily.  Bluetooth was an option on these models as I discovered when we picked our 1.4TSi up last weekend.  If the original owner didn’t take the option the stereo would be much the same with software labelled Bluetooth but would be lacking a module to enable the Bluetooth to work.

From here you can go two ways, either buy a module to enable the Bolero to use Bluetooth or an aftermarket stereo and fascia plate to get it to fit.  We found the modules a bit expensive so bought a stereo and wiring loom from Halfords and the fascia plate from a website called In Car Tec.  Here’s a picture of how it looks after fitting.  It was challenging to find the fascia plate, I think In Car Tec was our third purchase attempt!

That looks a very professional fit, it came out all right in the end didn’t it. I had a feeling blue tooth and hands free was probably buried in the new car optional extra list. I think I will eventually go with your idea or one of those double din head units off eBay with possible built in navigation. But it will have to go on my Christmas list. Thanks for your advice.

If you do make sure the faceplate is the 25.5cm width, anything else won’t fit.
