CD player starts clicking and stops

Featured Replies

Hi - have had a Rapid for several months now.

My only issue with is that after a CD has been

playing for some time, the unit often starts making

a strange clicking sound before the music stops

(although it sounds like the player is still going

round / trying to go round) ...

Has anyone had similar problems?

It seems to be worse when playing a CD I have

burnt myself although that might not be all the time ...

I rarely seem to get a CD to play all the way through, mind.

Cheers,

Danny

Try using different brand of CDR or if you can use a slower or different burn speed or burner. Usually CDRW is even worse.  The Skoda players do seem very sensitive to scratches and do run very hot.

If your car is still under warranty you could ask your dealer to change it under warranty though you will have to demonstrate a reproducible definite fault. 2 or more perfect unscratched CDs (not CDR or CDRW)

Unlikely but does it play dvd's?

I haven't tested it but I can see no reason it would play DVD's ...

It really is any disc, burnt or otherwise

Similar thing happens on our 2009 fabia with Dance radio. Gets worse when it gets hot, I think the adjustment on the read head must be marginal. I don't listen to CD's so, although annoying, I've long forgotten about it.

I think it's a problem with self copied CD/DVDs. I used to get clicking and distortion which grew worse over time until it gave up. This was in a Ford, and like you say, it seemed worse on RW CDs. The cd's were red hot when ejected. I just lived with it, but didn't put anything valuable without having the original or copy kept outside the car. That's not a lot of help, more in the nature solidalatry and solution
