Tyre Prices Fluctuating

Featured Replies

I've ordered some all weather tyres on line.  I've  also been reading the other threads on winter/all seasons etc etc.

Just thought I'd check the prices of your other recommendations versus what I've ordered. One major chain has bumped the price of "mine" up by £10 a tyre, albeit now offering £40 off 4 tyres. This was their second increase in a few weeks. If this is a normal marketing ploy then buy your non summer tyres by late October.

Told last year by manager of F1 autocentres that winter and all season tyre prices always go up around September onwards across all suppliers. Its standard marketing strategy in the industry. Especially now many more people choosing them.

I usually buy from Blackcircles.com and the tyre prices seem similar to when I last bought some - possibly a couple of pounds more.  The adding of a "+" seems to have rather put the price up for Michelin Crossclimates tyres.

Some suppliers have stock sitting, and some have their distributors with stock sitting and some are having issues with tyre deliveries and supplies.

The GBP and the Euro are up and down like a strippers knickers and when looking at Prices some are looking very good then you see the £9.50 delivery on each tyre.

You can order online and book an appointment only to find out that calling in and checking what is available when and the price can be cheaper as you are standing at the desk.

The Euromaster site only comes up with  ,expensively priced, Crossclimate + for my 16" wheels. Nice if there was some choice of all season tyres, like Black Circles or My Tyres.

Because the site is sh!te compared to the likes of Black Circles, which really is odd.

But stand at a counter, the person on the desk looks at their screen, picks up the phone, sees what is in and if the driver / lorry has left and says, in tomorrow, or later this week or how about these, and gives a price.

Same at many tyre fitting centres.  Only so many tyre importers and distributors and retailers are getting the tyres delivered from the HGV's that come to that area delivering from depots / warehouses.

Bargains to be had from tyres in the country or ones in transit or ones due sometime soon.

Blackcircles was based in Peebles because it is nice to live there, mountain bike trails etc, keep the employees on the computers happy, life work balance..

Simply Clever.

Michelin own ATS Euromaster as well.

OT,

but just a hop and skip or a few pedal revolutions from Peebles.

I don't really want to stand at more than one counter when buying tyres. Finding out in advance on -line suits me. Interesting that Blackcircles as well as ATSEuromaster are now Michelin owned.

Wish that were the case here in France, ripped the sidewall out of a new 205/55R16 91V Michelin Energy Saver +, on line price with fitting at local centre was within a couple of Euros from all of them at €88 (inc €16 fitting) yet when you enquire at the desk they all quote €150 ish and then trot out the old line that you have to buy and fit a pair, its the law, bla bla bla..........................

And 99% of the pigeons will just swallow it and pay up.

The French company manufacturing tyres in Scotland & just 15 miles down the road from me might make the difference....

They are threatening job losses though.

As Xman said it’s normal for the winter/all season around September/October and conversely summer tyres come down in price and that’s why I tend buy my tyres out of season. In fact just bought new front summer tyres from Tyreleader to be fitted next week. I bought the winter tyres in June this year and just swapped the wheels over yesterday.

I'm getting myself a set of 4 Goodyear Ultragrip 9 tyres fitted tomorrow through blackcircles. One thing I always do is see if there are any voucher codes online. I was going through them before hitting the Buy button and found one that was showing as expired online but worked on the website.

The coded that worked was FLASH10 which according to the voucher code website expired at the end of August but still worked on blackcircles and got me another 10% off. If anyone is still on the lookout for winter tyres it might still work or I might just have been lucky

4 x 185/60 R 15 XL tyres fitted for £257 at my local ATS. Going direct to their website, the price is £328 which is up £2 per tyre on the price quoted when I ordered mine last weekend

  • 4 months later...

I have been mulling all seasons, looking at Vredestein Quatrac 5 (as one of the few in required size).

November-February prices were around £150-170 per wheel, but same size is now down to £120-£130 at some sites, so definitely a seasonal price change.

Like with Patio Furniture / Bar-B-Q's etc.

There will be plenty wishing they had on 'much cheapness' Winter Tyres oop north today and tomorrow.

Even if just for a few miles of driving.

Snow in Buxton today  but none on the tarmac. Have avoided actually driving on snow or ice this winter.  So far.  Useful -these all seasons tyres.

I had four CrossClimates fitted at the start of December and they have seen zero snow.
But I feel that justifies my buying all-seasons rather than putting on dedicated winters.
(And I guess I may have been benefiting from slightly improved grip on cold surfaces even without snow, although I'm not sure how much that applies to the CCs.)
