Thinking about buying a Kodiaq and have a few questions.

Featured Replies

I'll also be changing from the Superb 3 estate to a Kodiaq shortly and although the Kodiaq has enough space I think the 7 seat version could have been slightly longer.

The Kodiaq is only 4.7m long whereas the new Seat Tarraco is 4.74 and my current Superb is 4.87m. Normally Skoda are very good at making the most of the underlying platform to get the largest possible dimensions.

Whilst making the Kodiaq the same length as the Superb would be overkill, another 3 or 4 inches would make the 3rd row of seats more useable without having to play about with the location of the middle bench?

Skoda could have copied VW's approach with the Tiguan and had a regular 5 seat with a longer 7 seat version? For example, a 5 seat version at 4.7m and the 7 seat at 4.8m?

They could have. But then it would have cost more. Keeping as much as possible the same between all the different variants keeps the costs down. If you want a slightly bigger 7-seater then go buy the SEAT or the VW... but the Skoda is still the best overall value proposition out of all of them, if you ask me.

Remember though, that those numbers don't necessarily equate to more or less interior space.

It is often down to styling, chances are the Tarraco's exterior dimensions, such as the rear bumper or boot lid, are shaped differently and extend out a further 4cm than the Kodiaq.

Anyone else remember the 206 GT (c. 1998/9)? Bigger bumpers extending the car's length by 17cm so that the WRC version could be homologated.

I'm not saying that the Kodiaq is miserly on space however if you look at the other Skoda models against their respective VW counterparts, i.e. Superb vs Passat and Octavia vs Golf, both the Skoda models are larger than the VW's.

If Skoda had gone down the same path with the Kodiaq then there would have been a couple of additional inches of leg room for the 3rd row passengers.

Anyway, it arrives next month and looking forward to getting my new toy! :D

This has been Skoda's USP for many years now.

Take the Golf, graft on a huge boot, the Octavia is born. For Golf money you're getting a bigger car.

Take the Passat, graft on extra rear legroom and a huge boot, the Superb is born.

Times change, the Citygo is the same size as the Up!, the Fabia the same size as the previous generation Polo, not all Skoda's have to be 'bigger VW's'.

Simple though.  a Citigo, UP! & Mii are the same car / bodyshell built in the same factory in Slovakia or in South America with

different bits bolted on or in.  Now the hopeless ASG not available so no 2 pedal version.

Skoda get a Fabia as a Hatch or Estate but now the only engine choice is 1.0 with or without a turbo.

No more than 110ps either.

Blimey, anyone holding out on ordering a Kodiaq in the hope a SEAT Tarraco would be cheaper better think again :o

Now on SEAT's online configurator...

https://www.seat.co.uk/new-cars/tarraco/overview.html

Base spec Tarraco SE 1.5 TSI EVO 150 PS 6-speed manual - £28,320, 7-seats, metallic paint, LED headlights, virtual cockpit, 3-zone climate control and KESSY included as standard though.

Getting into the Kodiaq is cheaper @ £25,770 (1.5 TSI, manual, SE, 5 seat).

Wow...

And we all thought £40k for a Skoda was having a laugh! :D

TO be fair that is fully loaded. How much is an equivalent Kodiaq?

Indeed, we must always compare like Spec for like.

Entry level vehicle is one thing.

The vehicle you’d actually like to run around is is usually something totally different.

SEAT do sometimes start with a reasonable base spec though.

But, for me, that’s where the Kodiaq SEL provided a very reasonable starting point over many other vehicles.

Think Premium Brands.

Have you checked out the Option Packs for a Merc or Audi! :o

I took the base Kodiaq SE 1.5 TSI manual, 7 seater, and added all of the features needed to get it to the same (or as close as possible) base specification SE Tarraco.

Kodiaq SE 1.5 TSI 150 PS 6G Manual 7-seater - £26,750.

Plus...

Metallic paint - £595

KESSY - £215

Virtual Cockpit - £550

Driver Alert System - £50

ISOFIX on Front Passenger Seat - £45

Lumber Support for Driver & Passenger - £130

Drive Mode Selection - £100

Folding Tables on Front Seat Backrests - £130

Sun Visors with Mirror Illuminated - £10

Tri-Zone Climate Control - £305

Electrically Folding and Auto-Dimming Door Mirrors - £255

LED headlights - £? (not available as an option)

TOTAL - £29,135 (plus approx £1,000 for the LED headlights and fog lights, based on Octavia / Superb pricing) = £30,135

Compared to the standard Tarraco SE @ £28,320.

£1815 difference, which whilst not insignificant can probably be swallowed up with manufactures incentives, dealer discounts, finance APR's and depreciation etc. Do SEAT normally offer more attractive discounts than Skoda?

So whilst the Tarraco is no more expensive, it perhaps isn't as cheap as maybe it should be?

EDITED: to add the LED headlights into the cost difference. The Kodiaq SE gets regular halogens, all Tarraco's get LED headlights as standard.

Irrespective of price, I'd still take the Kodiaq. Much nicer looking, and the front end looks like an SUV. The Tarraco looks like it is trying to be a car at the front end, and so just looks... wrong.

I'd not really noticed until I posted those pictures above, but I do like the Kodiaq's squared-off wheelarches.

Bob is mixing up his Karoq's from his Kodiaq's.  Better looking car though IMO than the Skoda.

And from the info I got through the post they have a digital dash as standard across the range too. Was thinking about a tarraco, but the discount I got on the Kodiaq more than levelled things off, and I get it mid jan

Tarraco appears to be better value at the moment but I'd expect discounts to be bigger on the KOdiaq as the Tarraco will only in show rooms form Jan but by summer there should be some nice discounts on demo models of the Tarraco.

I got 10% on CarWow as preorder since the car will only be in the showrooms in January so I'd expect the discounts to be around the same level as SKoda in 6 months time.

Seat have 0% APR at the moment

Yep, it's on the list in my post above, Virtual Cockpit @ £550.

The standard Tarraco is more money, but as per my list, it also comes more generously specced.

I am intending 'bagging an Ex Demonstrator' Tarraco' very soon.

I know the spec of the cars being delivered and they are just as i want.  Quite happy that they will likely be doing more than 3,000 miles and kept over 3 months as that suits when i want the car.

Obviously if there are snagging issues in that time i would not be wanting one of those cars that are available unless the price available made that 'much cheapness'.

Dark Camouflage is an odd name for a colour.  But i like it and a change from 'Cloak of invisibility grey'.

Whoops. Missed that!

I looked at it & I do like it, but will wait to get the Kodiaq out of my blood before I change. Also for me my local Skoda garage services Seat's as there is no Seat dealer inside 30 miles of me, so for warranty work it gets a bit tricky as not many cars go through them. It was going in for the servicing of my current Alhambra that got me into looking at a Kodiaq.

Walked in to dealer that doesn't normally do deals & including the £2k PCP contribution, got circa £6k off the price & availability in 6wks (its at the port in Czech).

My only concern with the Tarraco was the early views saying it doesn't do enough to be different to the Kodiaq. I currently have an FR version of the Alhambra & its a big difference from the VW version

I would imagine it would be technically almost identical to the Kodiaq (it rolls off the same production line in Wolfsburg) and the way Seat don't offer options so you can't pick exactly what you want but it seems Seat do most sensible options within each price bracket so I can't see that much of a problem

It comes down to looks and personal preference and what deal you can bag at the time you want a new car.

Ehmm...

Kodiaq is produced in Czech?
