Puddle lights LED upgrade - Done

Featured Replies

I finally got around to swapping the puddle lights on my Octavia - I opted for the replacement units from Superskoda that came in at £40.  Swapping them isn't a big job, the most ar*e wrenching bit is pulling the wing mirror glass out.  Mine are Anti Dazzle so the last thing you want to do is break them as they arent cheap.  All said and done it was about an hour start to finish.

What I would say is that the OEM old units are held in by one torx screw and a small plastic lip so the old unit sort of clips in to the mirror housing.  On the new ones from Superskoda they dont have the cut out for the plastic to slot into so the plastic lip has to be removed (as per their instructions) - about 1mm needs removing on one side of the housing.  As the new unit is only held in with one screw it seemed almost a bit loose and if pushed it moved into the housing slightly.  I decided to glue it in as well as the screw so there no chance of it dislodging at all.

Also the new units have a clear plastic top on them including the bit surrounding the lens - I painted this black prior to fitting as I had the same units in my Oct 2 and found that when the lights came on it also illuminated the inside of the mirror housing itself and looked a bit crap.
