I have a Iphone paired with the car but try as I may I cannot seem to set it so that it automatically connects to the car. If I connect it manually then turn on/off BT on the phone it does not automatically reconnect, same if I disconnect from the car. 

 

Is this normal behaviour?

as long as my phone's bluetooth is active, the car will connect.   just like any other bluetooth device.

Iphone8, that’s what I thought it doesn’t sound normal.

 

might try to wipe it and start over.

My iphones (my own SE & work 6S) have been playing up since update to iOS12.

Bluetooth connection lost after 10+ mins and won't reconnect, doesn't seem to be a Skoda issue as connection drops to my TomTom satnav as well but that will reconnect after switching phone bluetooth off /on

IOS 12.1 is now available, maybe try updating to that.

My iPhone 7 and my wife’s iPhone SE are not the most reliable in BT connection to our SIII or Oct3 (my2018). Both will drop off and are slow to connect. Connecting the SIII to the iPhone 7 for internet is poor. Works fine with a Sony Android phone.  

 

I have put put it down to Apple. 

I think you’re right, £500 phone and it can’t reconnect automatically?!
