Manoeuvre Braking

In vehicle settings there's something called "Manoeuvre Braking"

 

Does anyone know what it is? I couldnt find a reference to it in the manual.

When you park your car if you car detects you're moving too fast to the obstacle it will automatically brake. Sometimes it works too soon, e.g. when driving reverse to some high grass. But its useful, prevented me from hitting another car once.

Thanks, that makes sense. I had got used to using the brake to control parking on the Octy diesel vrs, and wondered whether this was why i can't "creep" on the Superb.

Switch off the auto brake (button by gear selector) and then it won’t hold the brake on as you ease your foot off the brake. Then it’ll creep for manoeuvring (assuming DSG).

Just some comments that I've noticed...

 

It's definitely rate dependent from my experience. At my parents they have one of those bushes with very droopy leaves at the entrance to their drive...basically, you have to drive through it to get out with no risk of damage to the car. I've done this many times but one time when in a rush, it jammed on the brakes...scares you to death at the time! Another time when I was trying to work out when it was on or off (touch screen button when parking sensors are up on the 8.9" Columbus) I was able to reverse very gently into a suitably soft hedge. I suspect if I'd reversed back at the hedge more quickly it would have braked the car. So, I guess it's there to help you not damage the car without being too intrusive all the time.

 

The one that gets me is when I'm parallel parking on the main road I live on...the system that is supposes to detect cars when you're reversing out of a car parking space kicks in and the car lurches to a halt if a car safely drives up the road past me! I think that might only be on the L&K models maybe??

 

Also, I'm sure that I've found if you just tap the accelerator once the car will then creep. I'll check next time I'm in it??

I've only had the car a week but I think you're right about it being rate dependent.

 

Sometimes mine creeps and sometimes it doesnt, maybe it is as you say, just a touch of throttle.

If you have auto brake (the ‘(A)’ switch next to the parking brake ‘(P)’ switch) turned on, then a slight tap of the accelerator will take the brake off and you can quickly move your foot to the brake pedal.

Thanks, thats exactly how it behaves, getting the hang of it now.
