Info please on engine

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone give me some info on the mk2 superb in looking at. It has the 103kw bmp engine in a 2008 superb. Its this any good? Or does it self destruct like the mk1? It is a pd engine in the bonnet.

Thanks in advance.

The 1.9 TDI PD105 engine is as solid as they come. Renowned for being indestructible with solid and proven performance across the MkII Octavia range with its cast iron cylinder block and 8V SOHC (single overhead cam).

The MkII Superb was one of the last Skoda models to use this engine, and it wasn't around very long (2008-2010), quickly replaced by the 1.6 CR (common rail) engine.

The reliability comes at a price though - refinement. The 1.9 is often described as 'agricultural' in terms of it's noise and power delivery.

It's only 5 speed too.

But no DPF (diesel particulate filter) to worry about.

The issues on the MkI Superb were with the 2.0 engine and was with faulty oil pumps. The 1.9 (or the 2.0) in the MkII does not suffer from this problem.

BMP is the 2.0 16v PD with 140 bhp (103 kW).

Not sure where I got 1.9 from.

My last line still works though :D

There was a version of the 1.9 in the Superb II that had a DPF - the Greenline of the day.

DPF's and the pd are not a good combination due to the way the cam/electrical operated injection works.

Whilst the 1.9 was generally a very reliable engine there were a couple of later engine codes (BXE & BLS - I think) that sometimes threw a conrod through the block.

Was the 1.9 used in the Superb II? Mine is a 2008 and a PD as far as I can tell but is a 2.0 not a 1.9.  It's a 140BHP which is circa 103kw. Must say I like the characteristics of it with good Los down grunt. Never driven the later engine but believe it it more linear without as Michael low down.

Auto'correction' from what? Much pull? :D

:D, Thanks for pointing that out Wino.  I don't  think my tablet has auto-correct, more like auto-make-a-fool-of-me.  It constantly 'correct' me to words which don't make any sense of don't even exist.

I think I actually wrote "without as much 'grunt' low down" but your correction makes as much sense

You should hear me rant at my phone and/or tablet when it makes **** up to replace perfectly good words...:D

Yes, it was, 2008 to 2010, replaced by the 1.6 CR on the Greenline.

So did they run 1.9 & 2.0 engines at 140BHP concurrently or is my 2.0 actually a 1.9?

The 1.9 was 105 bhp.

The 1.9 PD was 105bhp.

I think they ran alongside each other, much like the following 1.6CR 105PS and 2.0CR 150PS.

OK thanks, I guess the 103kw quoted in the first post should have been 103BHP.

2.0 BMP had 103 kW, 138 bhp, 140 PS. And it was actually an 8 valve engine, not 16 as I thought.

1.9 PD had 77 kW, 103 bhp, 105 PS.
