Refuelling from a spare can

Featured Replies

Evening all, does anyone know how to add diesel from a spare can?

It looks like there's some mechanism holding the hole closed without the proper nozzle etc.

I haven't run out, I justhave a few litres in a plastic can I'd like to use up.

Less than 2 days old!  I thought that sticking it in the tank was the simplest and cleanest way of disposing of it...

ford ?

you can buy an emergency diesel fuel filler nozzle for fords

ebay is your friend ,  can be had for around £4

Diesel does have a self life,  and it is years stored in a sealed container.   But then there is now winter spec diesel in UK filling stations. Waxing inhibited.    Millions of used and new diesel cars are sitting around in dealership with old fuel in the tanks.   Tens of thousands of 'Banked' vw group diesels without WLTP approval sitting with diesel going off in the tanks.  Low sulphur diesel.

Small amounts of summer diesel are not a problem when mixed with a full tank of winter diesel, I believe UK winter spec is down to -15 c so with 2 gallons of summer in a 10 gallon tank it should still survive -10.  Never known a new car have more than the minimum unless you negotiate to get more from the dealer.

Had complaints from British Rail over fuel waxing on new Diesel trains many years ago, then they checked the weather records and it had been down to 22-23 below . . . .

Visited the Alps a 4-5 years ago in Winter, they had just experienced a cold snap and everything running on diesel had stopped.
