Self-servicing

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

our almost 4 year old Citigo SE with 53,000 miles is wanting a service.

I'm not up for paying the best part of £300 for an oil change with air con clean and a wash and vac and I'm thinking to do the minor services myself.

Is anyone else self-servicing their Citigo?

Any problems or advice?

Thanks

John

Refilling would better and more needed than cleaning. That's what most of us can't do our selves.

Why not look for local alternatives?

I would for example charge £80 for a oil and filter change on a Citigo.

Dont have to spend £300.

Not familiar with the Citigroup but I certainly intend to service my Superb myself once it’s out of warranty. Generally modern cars are easier to service than old ones - virtually everything is maintenance-free, just oil and filters to change, spark plugs very occasionally (if petrol). Only thing is you can’t clear fault codes unless you have a code reader or VCDS-type thing. If you have an electric handbrake you also need such things to back off the handbrake in order to change the pads and/or discs.

If in any doubt about any service procedure, you can pay €8 for an hour on ERWIN whence you can view and print out any service procedure, and of course the manufacturer’s service schedule.

Likewise, but the Superb is so low and drain plug so far back that I have to think about making some kind of ramps, not going to crawl under a car supported on jacks or axle stands.

Ive got some drive on ramps that have built in jacks. Drive on and secure vehicle, then jack up the section under the wheel, remove the ramp and then let down onto axle stands.

Any chance of a link?

It’s such an easy drain plug to undo though - just a 90 deg turn with a screwdriver, and no underbody trays etc to remove. I jacked it up a bit on one side and put an axle stand in as backup (having chocked the lower wheels).

Mine is the 1.4tsi with conventional steel sump plug. I also have to remove a 3/4 length tray to access the oil filter which is at the bottom front of the engine, not accessible from above.

Ok fair enough, didn’t realise there was so much variation. Mine is really easy to drain and the filter is on top of the engine bay, couldn’t be more accessible.

My problem being 73 is when I lie down I can't get back up and fall asleep instantly. I usually get Groupon Services for around under £50. My F1 outlet matches prices and are efficient, friendly and motor geeks. Chris at Wheatley road, Doncaster is top class. Shop around. Winter tyres and wheels at half dealer price at My Tyres direct from Dunlop Germany. Replacement punctured tyre with screw at shoulder, not replaceable from Tyres on the Drive. Use Groupon for Air Con. ( Or meals- window cleaning). Used Briskoda Members for computer fault coding.  Many Briskoda colleagues are knowledgeable and willing to help you.

Go with good service from good people and push the motor to satisfaction and enjoying a buzz.
