USB to AUX adaptor

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone

I recently traded in my 2016 Skoda Octavia with 2018 model. I loved both but i did not know that the newer one does not have the AUX output to connect to a phone for calls or audio directions on the car radio system. It has a USB outlet but that reads media only. Anyone knows of an adapter to do both tasks. Thanks.

Easiest option would be to use bluetooth.  No cables, plus you can control media and phone calls from the dash.

What phone do you have? It’s it’s Android Auto/MirrorLink or CarPlay compatible then you can use the SmartLink feature via the USB, or Bluetooth as above.

Thank you Kogabe..unfortunately, the car does not have Bluetooth. I bought a Bluetooth device but did not work. You think it should?

Thank you Sasha, I actually have a Microsoft Phone that I trying to replace. I am leaning towards Android. I have an old Android but it does not seem to have either app.

USB is a Serial Communications Bus, Aux is an analogue voltage signal in basic terms.

i think your current phone is limiting your options and affecting your experience.

I have a spare usb and aux which includes all the connectors and the under tray if you need it? you would need to see if theres a USB connector on the loom though to connect the port to?

you can down load AA from the play store. what version of android are you running? i think you need at least 5.0 and up for AA

i thought even the most basic MK3 MIB1 boleros had bluetooth?

what you need to do is post a picture of the front of your headunit in the glove box or better still remove it and take a pic of the big sticker.

do you have a reversing camera?

I wouldn’t have thought a Windows phone would be running Android tbh.

He has an old android, I think hes going to replace the windows phone with an android?  I think mirror link is available on later windows devices? or its on the way.

I have an S5 running nougat and it works really well. The aspect ratio on the mirror link is much nicer but ill have to buy another sim just to take calls as you have you use the phone you are connect to AA with. there is an option to add a second phone but i cant get it to work yet.

Bolero has Bluetooth by default, so if there's no BT in it, it must be then the basic unit unfortunately. In this case Android Auto is also a no go, since it is available in Bolero and above MIBs. In the basic unit the USB is only available for music data storage, nothing more. However if I'm not mistaken you can have a BT unit installed at a VAG specific garage. A photo of your head unit would be useful to sort it out.

If you mean an USB bluetooth dongle, it will definitely not work like in a PC. You need a compatible BT module built in the car.

Having trouble understanding this.  Wouldn't you need an AUX input rather than output to play phone / voice thru the car?

I've tried to look at the Palastinian website for Skoda to see what spec the most basic 2018 Octavia has, but Windows is having trouble translating your website in to English.  Seems weird that the car doesn't have an AUX socket. As far as I can make out, all European Octavia's have the AUX beside the USB socket, but that's not to say the rest of the world is like that.

If your car doesn't even have bluetooth then I assume it's the most basic of headunits which isn't available in Europe.  There isn't an AUX in on the headunit itself by any chance?  Sometime's it can be located in the centre console between the front two seats or even in the glovebox.  Just seems really weird a car manufacturer would go to the trouble of supplying a USB but no AUX input.

Any chance of taking a photo of your headunit and posting it on the site - someone may recognise the model and offer more help.

Thank you Scot5. You are right, I mean AUX input rather than output. Yes my car is the basic model. My older 2016 Octavia was also the basic model and had both AUX and USB ports. I did not expect the newer 2018 model not to have it. You think I can upgrade the software to have Bluetooth? Here are two pictures of the console if someone can make anything out of it. I will also check with my local dealer

thanks

Thank you SashaGrace but I think the car has no way to communicate. Just read media. I will see if the dealership can install BT

Thank you Johnny for the offer. Let me try to see what the dealership had to say

Not familiar at all with this model but I suspect it's a 'Swing'. When you press media button is there a USB icon on the bottom left of the touchscreen? If you select this, do any other input options appear?  Do you have anything at all in the glovebox such as a SD card slot?

As you say, best asking dealership. Can't believe Skoda would manufacture a specific unit for each grade of vehicle - it's usually more cost effective to manufacture a generic unit then tailor it to the specific market. So even if there is no AUX input socket in the cabin, I'm guessing there may be a facility to add one on the rear of the unit to add - would then expect the unit to auto detect it.

Whatever the outcome, I'd be sorely tempted to replace that unit altogether with another. (being so basic it's not as if you're loosing much functionality). You could replace it with another Skoda headunit or a compatible headunit - both options might be expensive tho.  If I wanted a good headunit for as little cost as possible, I'd buy a facia adapter and add a DIN or Double DIN 3rd party unit - you can pick these up for peanuts these days and it will give you all the functionality you want. It'll also sound  100x better as it'll have a more powerful amplifier.

Good luck with whatever happens.
