Ecu loose

Featured Replies

Hello,

My ecu is loose in the engine compartment. There is no obvious way to fix it. It flaps around and vibrates like hell. I wedged some pieces I cut from bicycle inner tubes between ecu cage and fuse box to stop it flapping around and it has also cured totally irritating vibration  between 2000 and 2500 rpm.

I found generic seat engine compartment picture from web but it looks exactly the same as my octavia and ecu has the same metallic cage around it.

Any ideas how it comes off so I can fix it properly?

As I said before. No obvious bolts to tighten.

The engine ECU is usually protected by a metal bracket to meet anti-theft requirements as its part of the immobilizer system.

Typically they are fixed in place using shear bolts where the head snaps off once it reaches a certain torque (again to prevent it from easily being removed).

Im not sure if VAG/Skoda use this system as well but I would guess so.

Its also probably why you dont find any obvious way to tighten it in the bracket.

Maybe someone on here with access to the service database can give you an assembly diagram for the ECU?

I'd imagine it might involve counter drilling the fixing bolts though....
