as a very short notice purchase there are a few observations of things i like/dislike......

economy and space i'm well impressed with coming from C5's of varying ages

Colombus HU is OK but the satnav being old, couldn't even input my own address...a few more than 2 steps back!

looked at the updates etc but as i have a TomTom and a spare Garmin it's no great problem but please tell me IF i did update the Software/Maps i'd still hear the classic line 'stay on this road for a long time'  :D  i'm so glad i didn't have a hot drink when i first heard it.

rSAP is a pain in the A**, can't even use the phone as an Aux for internet radio and OH's phone presumably is too new to connect?

i've looked at the replacing of the BT module but again i think i'll live with what i've got

I miss my old C5's memory seats with the auto entry/exit movement, i am aware that i could use setting 3 but do have 3 drivers who can use the car and i'm trying to use only the 1 key for simplicity

no auto folding mirrors as per the C5 seems a bit basic and that also had both mirrors auto dipping in reverse if needed.

just received today 2 replacement door lamps which hopefully are pull out and replace, job for the w/e along with NS mirror indicator which came as a freebie...ordered on eBay from ECP as a collect locally, girl on counter did the deal and commented how difficult it was to sort out this stuff from ebay.  week later i get an email saying they'd cancelled the order because delivery was refused and would refund the money which they have done!

i've also 'piggy-backed' a supply for dashCam, mag mount NextBase so i swap out from van or OH's Fiat 500 as needed.

just need to sort out 'airbag fault', i think from reading round i've turned Ign on with the passenger light switch on the fascia disconnected

i'll wager a bet that some/most of you will agree with me on some of the above?      i do like it, honestly!!

Easily enabled with the diagnostics software

Only if you long press the lock button (it will first pull the windows up and the 2nd phase is to fold the mirrors) - that is only if the mirrors are folding ones - I know, pain in the ass (there is a relay trick that can do that automatically, but it is a DIY job)

The LED indicators do go out quickly - all the aftermarket ones, the factory installed ones are the best quality, don't know who made them that good for the car's age.

Had a C5 Tourer '10, the rear seat leg room can't be compared to the Superb's

Yes, you would still hear it!

On the rSAP thing, you need to go into the phone menu on the MFD and change to Handsfree Mode instead of Premium and it'll work as you expect.

RSAP effectively disconnects the SIM from the phone and connects it to a GSM tranciever in the car.

You may need to pair the phone separately for bluetooth media playback on the Columbus, again in the MFD menu.

I remember from FCF , plenty to play with on a Skoda in comparison ?  :)

other info duly noted and i'll have a play the w/e

Hard to compare them directly ... if you looked at the price while new one and the other, we're talking about completely different cars ... the C5 wasn't bad, far from it, but it was s-l-o-w for my taste (163 BHP and it went no where) ... and it didn't have all the comfort you'd expect from a newer car (it was only 3 years old when I bough it 2nd hand) ... my current Superb is among most of the Superb's that are currently on the road "slightly" different: 3.6 FSI and a 4x4 with a DSG gearbox, self-parking capability, AFS Xenon lights, etc etc ... but, no BT connectivity (so far) but I've already retrofitted the navigation unit to keep the tradition going ... the Superb has only 2 genuine navigation units on offer, while you could install 7 different genuine ones to the C5 Mk3 ... I'd dare say that the C5 was much more fun to play with as a experimentation platform (retrofits here and there) than the Superb is ... but, that being said, the Superb is already loaded with features as it is, hard to add anything extra (and useful) to it

so the 2 jobs i'd planned are sort of done.

puddle lamps now fitted, 5 mins job and no codes thrown

turns out the LED indicator i have is for the DS, luckily i didn't 'pay', at least i have a spare now.

just need to source the right one now so i can put the mirror back together, i don't think the plastic clips will survive another hack at them

can't see any way to change from Premium to Handsfree on the MFD, i'l RTFM tonight as the OH is away.

press and hold works on the mirrors so another thing off the list

Are you using the Columbus menu? If so - don't. Use the menus on the MFD (i.e. the screen on the instrument cluster, accessed using the steering wheel buttons on the right hand side).

Using MFD only

@olduns

Android or iPhone or something else ?

Can you do full scan - VCDS, VCP, etc. - to check what modules you have?

  • Author

mine is a Samsung S5 running android 6.0.1, OH's is a fairly new Huawei running whatever the latest is won't connect as seems to 'incompatible'

can't do full scan, no-one near either.

it's not the end of the world, at least my phone does connect and works, would be nice to be able to stream internet radio as an easier option than the DAB route which i've 'sort' of got working temporarily for now.

replacing BT modules etc i don't really want to get in to right now, the car doesn't get used daily, tip runs/shopping and to France are its reason for existence on the driveway, it's basically a spare car...don't worry the others are nothing special or of value  :)

The Bluetooth module is underneath the driver's seat. If you slide the seat back and pop off the plastic cover, the part number should be visible on the label. Once we know that we might be able to sort it out.

Don't some cars have a molded styrofoam cover over the module instead of plastic?

plastic cover on mine...

HU label from a few weeks ago for ref:  no access to the 'secret' menu so i'm guessing never been updated?

When my bluetooth played up, some searching here suggested simpky unplugging it. I did so , left for a few mins and pkugged back in , not missed a beat since

reading the sticky at the top re rSAP it appears i have rSAP only module

Just now, olduns said:

That's correct

  • Author

oh well, i know now what i've got to work with

  • Author

in other news today...2nd time lucky for the Mirror indicator, all back together and working again, not sure the clips will survive a second time though.

battery was flat though so after jump starting i had a dash lit up for Xmas, all now sorted apart from the ESP fault which hopefully will disappear tomorrow after a drive

You should've seen my dash while I had the ABS pump replaced ... :D ... there were icons there that even the designers of Skoda had never seen
