Octavia 3 Infotainment System Replacement

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have Octavia 3 (2015) and I’m going to replace the old 6.5” display with the new 2018 9.2” display (photos attached)

my question: do i need to change the CD player or the old CD will work fine with the new 9.2” infotainment system??

It might depend on if you have a MIB1 or MIB2 unit - my Octavia was built in April 2015 and has a MIB1 Amundsen which isn't compatible with the newer MIB2 displays.

Can't comment on the Columbus as I don't have one B)

I have MIB1 Amundsen in my car

The 9.2 inch display will only work with a MIB2.5 Columbus to match it, or a MIB2 Columbus that has been modified to work to 2.5 spec. MIB1 Amundsen you are stuck with a 5.8 inch display sadly. You can upgrade to MIB2 with a bit of effort either Amundsen or Columbus and you can use the 8 inch screens on these no problem (I am running MIB2 Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen in my 2014 car) but the 9.2 is a lot of extra cash to get working. Same procedure, but a lot more money. Easily £1000 GBP to retrofit, some people ask that just for the screen and radio unit whereas my MIB2 install was £540 all in before selling the old Bolero.

What about the usb port?? Shoul i change it too?

Yes you’ll need that too. Once that’s all done you’ll need to have the Component Protection removed and then some coding by someone who knows what they are doing to reactivate the features. If you are using it with a MIB2.5 radio unit then it’s cheaper to get the mods done to work with the car, if you are going MIB2 then the HW hack is gunna cost more.

8" FL screen is a good compromise and still looks good if you like the sleek look, im loving mine...
