Low clutch pedal, normal? 2.0 Petrol

Featured Replies

Looking at a cheap 2.0 Petrol Oct Mk1 but the clutch pedal seems incredibly low, like 2 inches off the flow, half the height of the brake. Is this normal? Car seemed to drive ok, maybe a tiny judder but not sure if it was just me. It’s only cheap so not expecting perfection but don’t want to buy a new clutch!

Any help appreciated before I leave a deposit?

Ps. Is the 2.0 petrol fairly reliable?

Thanks!

@Jaws78 I think it's a hydraulic clutch, so may need bled it it's a bit spongy as well.

Didnt seem spongy just low, maybe it’s because I’m used to driving an A3 which has quite a long travel.

@Jaws78 Well, the clutch on my 140k TDi is decently high. I do know that the present clutch has done at least 80k (based on mileage when I bought the car).

Is the clutch pedal itself low or just the biting point?

The pedal shouldn't be low but the biting point could be. Should have similar clutch pedal travel to an A3.

The pedal, it seemed to bite ok but the pedal only seemed to move about 2" if that. Certainly sitting much lower than the brake.

I could be wrong, or just waay off, but i have this distant memory of past threads about "dropped" clutched pedals that worked fine, just low and not much travel. Could be 5yrs ago now. I have this inkling it was something to do with the clutch fork, rather than the actual clutch.

I have a 2002 Octavia mk1 2.0 Petrol and the clutch is flush with the brake pedal. It has a really long travel, it is super light and bites somewhere in the middle.
