Spotlight issue?

Featured Replies

When I switch my headlights on one of my spotlights is on constantly? if I switch both spotlights on they work fine? (ie they are both on) Is it basically a faulty bulb or something else?

Any advice appreciated.

Spotlights? Do you mean your main/high beams?

If you have factory fitted xenon/HID's fitted, the bi-xenon shutter might be stuck open.

langers 2k, thanks for the reply, if it's 'bi-xenon shutter might be stuck open' what needs to be done?

Depends what's caused it, there are too many to list really. For example, it could be:

- electrical fault causing the solenoid to be permanently energised

- mechanical fault preventing the shutter from closing

- mechanical fault where the shutter is no longer attached to the solenoid

Electrical faults should be easier to figure out as the shutter should close when the ignition is off or battery disconnected.

Mechanical faults will be harder as you won't have much access to the solenoid given the headlight isn't considered a serviceable item. A specialist might be able to open the headlight and check the shutter and solenoid are in good condition.

Most garages and the dealer will probably just want to replace the headlight...

Are we not talking about the cornering front fog lights?

If the steering wheel is in anything but the straight ahead position then one fog light will illuminate when the dipped headlights are turned on.

This is an Octavia, but the principle is the same...

Silver1011, no I meant the spotlights (on the same cluster as the daytime running lights) thank you for your reply.

@omnipeta - there are no spot lights fitted by Skoda ;)

You're either taking about:

- dipped/low beam

- main/high beam

- fog lights

The only other front lighting will be the DRL (daytime running lights), parking/sidelights and indicators.

Not sure what age your Superb is so it's not completely clear which lights you've having an issue with. It might be worth adding a picture...

In times gone past pre HID I would have said you had an earth fault.

Sorry guys I meant fog lights. (Thank you langers2k)

Excellent! Ignore all the shutter issues I mentioned as that only applies for the main beam.

The the most likely for one fog light to be on is the steering not being straight as silver mentioned. Be good if you can confirm straightening the wheel sorts it :)

Thanks for all your input guys, it is much appreciated. The 'problem' seems to have sorted itself out?

You didn't watch the video I posted then? If you watch the clip from Youtube you'll see that it is demonstrating the cornering fog lights, that are located down in the lower bumper next to the daytime running lights (DRL's).

The video shows a MkII Octavia, but the function works the same on your MkII Superb.
