First Minor Ding. GRRRRRRRR!

It's not often you get a courtesy car you don't want to hand back :D

Within 2 weeks of having my Scout, some idiot had managed to scuff the bumper and rear quarter panel. I'd parked in the gym car park and as it was a new car i decided to park as far away from the gym as possible where there were no cars, surely nobody would just ignore all the other spaces closer to the entrance, right? WRONG! Somehow this guy managed to reverse out an scrape my car, he left a note with a foreign number on there. Rang the number, it wouldn't accept any calls. Managed to get him on WhatsApp, he said he was from the Netherlands and was using his friends car without insurance (great!) and gave me his friends email to sort out! At this point i had nothing other than a phone number that didn't take calls so i contacted the security & started proceedings to get registration details, this seemed to put the frighteners into them and they asked me to get a quote. I got it quoted from a Skoda registered bodyshop for £800 and sent off to them. The guy who owned the car told me he was a student and said he would pay me in INSTALLMENT'S! Told him i wanted all the money up front or i'd just leave it to the insurance and police, funnily i received the money in full the following day and got my local bodyshop who  have always done work for me to repair the scuff for much less.

I would suggest a dash cam I am getting one in January sales it's the only option I been told to get the blackvue one and wire it in to be live all the time u can connect an see live picture off Ur phone and if anyone bumps Ur car it automatically records

Did you give the surplus money back?

Seems a bit harsh, he did leave his details after all. He could have easily driven off without saying anything and you'd either have had to claim through your insurance of pay for the repairs yourself.

Just ensure it states it has 'Park Mode', not all dashcams have this facility.

I would also suggest getting one with GPS as it should ensure the time AND date is correct. My non GPS dashcam had occasionally reset the date. Never had any issues with my GPS one, apart from it being an hour out when the clocks change.
